Re: Suggest me a starter setup please.

Propellerheads Reason would do the trick. It's a complete package music studio in one program. You can record audio, sequence midi instruments, add effects, tweak samples, dive into sound design, the works. It's also very stable and does not use much memory (at least the version I'm familiar with, w...

Re: OBXd Excellent Oberheim Emulation

I had a quick play with it and I did like the sound I got from it. Very nice for a free synth. I also like the SQ-80 emulation that's out there as well. That one is also free and it sounds quite nice.

Re: Most friendly SOFTWARE sequencer for HARDWARE synths

I'm not really speaking from experience, since I never sequenced hardware synths with software, but Propellerheads Reason is I imagine would be a pleasure to sequence synths with. It's very well laid out and a breeze to navigate once you know what you're doing. If you can't tell I'm a huge fan of Re...

Re: Synth prices and inflation

I think the prices of new synthesizers are ridiculous right now. They certainly cash in on the synthesizer hype that has happened over the past several years. A Prophet 12 is $3000 new? That is unreal. You can buy Reason 7 and 50 rack extension instruments for less than that, and most of them will p...

Re: You can only have one...

I'm pretty sure my mono would be an Arp Axxe. Not because it has the most sound possibilities or anything, just that the sounds that do come from it are beautiful! I would make sure it's an older model with the Moog ladder filter in it, though. To my ear, that filter sounded MUCH better than the lat...

Re: Great time to get a VA

Unless you really want the hands-on approach of knobs and sliders, I'd go the software route over a VA right now. For a few hundred bucks you can have Reason 7 which has multiple synths within it to program that all sound great. Plus you can buy rack extensions if you want to experiment with even mo...

Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?

A Rhodes piano patch is essential to my production. I used to own a Rhodes Mark II but sold it. Still, I always use Rhodes patches in my music and play them via midi. Lovely sound.

Re: What workstation should i buy?

If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, you could think about software. Propellerheads Reason is an amazing tool. Then just buy a decent midi controller and you're set. Just a thought.

Re: Using nothing but samples to create music

I don't like this elitist view some people have about sampling. Why do you feel the need to talk bad about someone like Puff Daddy? He took an 80s pop/rock song and turned it into a great hip hop song (among many other sampled beats in his music). No one thought to do that before him. He should get ...

Point taken. I didn't realize there were that many free tools now.

Re: Poll: how do you feel about pirated/cracked DAW software

What about people who are disabled or really poor and don't have any money to purchase software? I think for those people, pirating is sometimes the only option. But I say this. If you pirate, when you DO have the money to purchase, you always should.

You can only have one...

One mono and one poly synth.

Your studio only has room for these 2 synths. Let's also assume you have a $5000 budget to spend to buy the 2 synths.

So, which 2 synths do you buy and why?

Cityscape

Hello all.

Here is a new track I made using Reason 5 and the synthesizers offered by that program (Thor, Subtractor and Malstrom).

Cityscape - George Marauder

Enjoy! And let me know what you think.

Re: Jx 8p V's Jx 10?

I view the JX-10 as like the Rolls Royce of synthesizers. If I were to open the chassis I would expect everything to be encased in gold. It's a luxury synth.
