Video game/soundtrack music

Hello everyone! I've been focusing again on music the past few days and have come up with some new pieces. This is mostly imaginary film/video game music. I don't actually use vintage synths at the moment, due to a lack of space, money and technical know-how to keep them in tune :P, but I love synth...

Is there some way to boost USB gain?

Hello all. I'm about at my wits end with this USB turntable I just purchased. It doesn't have a gain control knob on it and the USB output is very low. So my question is, is there some way to boost the signal on my computer, other than post-processing? I have the recording level set to maximum on my...

Re: Nanokey2 + Reason 5

Hey Infinity! Nice to see you still around as well. I sold most of my gear off awhile back, but I recently purchased a Nanokey2, Nanopad2 and dusted off my old copy of Reason 5, so now I'm recording music in the digital realm instead of analog. Pretty cool so far. Lots of possibilities. Glad to be b...

Re: My vintage turntable pops for no reason. Help?

Could be an issue with either static electricity, or a ground loop. Does it pop when you touch it? Does it hum? Also check the leads connected to the cartridge. And if it has one of those "instant install" cartridge shells, pull the shell and clean its connectors and the connectors inside the tonea...

Re: My vintage turntable pops for no reason. Help?

The grounding wire is connected to my MV-8800. There is a special screw on the MV-8800 for grounding wires for turntables and I believe I have it set up correctly. I will try and adjust it to make sure.

My vintage turntable pops for no reason. Help?

I have a vintage Pioneer PL-100 that is driving me crazy. The reason it's driving me crazy is because even when no record is playing, there are frequent loud pops and crackles that come through my stereo and annoy the h**l out of me. It's the same when a record is playing, these pops and crackles wh...

Re: Analog alternative to Alesis Ion?

If I were you, I'd fix the Ion's outputs and keep it. The Ion is a beast. I don't know why you'd want to go to analog when you have a virtual analog Ion that can imitate everything an analog synth can do and then some. Keep the Ion.

Re: how important is compression

I mostly use compression as an effect. I like to run my whole mix through a compressor and overcompress the c**p out of it. I like the effect that gives my tracks. I rarely ever use compression on single tracks or sounds, just the whole mix. Works for me.
