Re: jx3p sequencer or juno 60 arppegiator

well, I've had a jx3p, a juno 60 and now have a juno 6 and I've never experienced the arp drifting with a cv trigger. And the arp can get pretty interesting if you want. The key is to not just send a standard 4/4 rhythm to it. I've been using a midi to cv converter and sending the gate part of the s...

Re: Heart/Brain of your setup?

So mine is twofold. I have ableton as the masterclock but then I have midi sent to my tempest which has become what I use to create drums and a couple hooks for my tracks. I like the scale quantized pads and the ability to get a song 80% finished with one instrument. I then add some sequenced modula...

Re: Best Beginner Synth

I'd say first, get the sound tower evolver editor for your computer. The reason I say that is, that you see what your envelopes actually look like and that can be very helpful for understanding what's going on there. I have it for my mopho and I learned a ton from having it running while making patc...

where to get a freaking a-frame these days

I can't find the classic aluminum ultimate support a-frames anywhere. Any ideas? I've only found them used on CL in different cities, etc and I really need a couple to set my space up the way I want. If someone has some suggestions, I'd love to know. I need to have a spot for like six boards, a modu...

Re: synth speculation rant

Maybe I could be buried with them. Get a battery powered one with you, who knows there's electricity on the Afterlife? http://l.yimg.com/ck/image/A1267/126768/300_126768.jpg Weird. I also had both Akai AX60 and AX80 once. A few years ago, the AX60 died and the AX80 smelled funny each time I turned ...

Re: Bangs, booms, thunks, and thwacks

You can get woody thunks if you do it right. The thing is, the best pitch envelope is an ar envelope, so use your adsr in a short way and experiment with the scooping point (attack and release) till you get it just so. You should sit down with a vermona DRM for a few minutes or a tempest and you'd s...

Re: Question about external controls for my Prodigy

Hi All I am looking for a pedal / simple Synth or something that would have a Lfo out and /or envelope out to control my Prodigy ... I was looking at moog pedals but did not see one containing an envelope . Any help ? Get the Moog midi/multi pedal. You can configure it to control whatever you want....

Re: synth speculation rant

I'm not just a collector, I play and write every chance I get, but have started to wonder what would become of my synths if I suddenly died. Should I put them in a will. My children don't seem at all interested in them. I could make a detailed list for my wife so she could ebay them. Maybe I could ...

Re: OP-1 got a (new) filter

Rad. My friend has an Op-1 and it's the best thing for just coming up with new sonic ideas and couch jamming. He books bands, and when this band was in town at his place, we were sampling the radio and doing crazy dubs in the kitchen. Way fun. It's kind of why we all do music in the first place, rig...

Re: Vermona DRM mk3 Demo video

Thanks guys! it's a pretty amazing drum synth that's capable of doing whatever you throw at it. I like programming it in parts, so I have one part for more traditional sounds and then program the other half in a bit more experimental way to get an easy switch between them all, because once you get t...

Vermona DRM mk3 Demo video

I made a Vermona DRM mk3 demo video. I wanted to make something a bit different sonically to what was out there. No minimal techno here, mostly a stripped back dub sound with my EHX Memory man w Hazarai. It was cut from an improvised session I did in my house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tWTmZpU...

Re: Which synth next?

I agree about another monosynth, but maybe something different than the moog sound, so think minibrute (if you can find one) Mopho, Yamaha CS 10 or 15, OR, I'd encourage you to look at maybe a drum synth for something completely different than what you have. I got a DRM mk3 recently and I was thinki...

Re: are "sawtooth" and "ramp" different terms for the same w

[/quote] In theory a perfect ramp and a perfect saw would generate the same harmonics and therefore sound the same, the differences come from things that introduce asymmetrical changes to the waveform, such as class A circuitry or waveshapers. I'm not sure if the MM mixer is class A but the STG mixe...

Re: are "sawtooth" and "ramp" different terms for the same w

Yeah, mixing them both together shows you that they are definitely NOT the same. It sounds super rad. I also use saw and ramp vs each other to get some crazy lfos for modulation. Reason 586 to get yourself a modular 8-)

Re: Synth for live band

A nord has this sort of up front clean sound, so it's a bit less warm than a juno or polysix, but gets you like 95% of the way there. Honestly, I'd just always have the sound guy on tour bring the top end down a tiny bit and you'd be closer. Go try one out if you can at a guitar center. They seem to...
