Re: Studio electronics Boomstar?

yeahhhhhhh. Love all those patch points. I wish more companies would do stuff like this. Seems to be aimed directly at the minitaur market. More knobs, more features and probably an amazing sound. If I didn't already have a few monosynths, I'd definitely consider this.

Re: just got my blofeld!

Congrats man. I love my blofeld I just recently got too. Mine still distorts reverb but I think since I've been using it a lot and turning the encoders more than the last user, everything seems to be sorted out now. I love the glassy nature of the synth as it really balances out my mopho and sits in...

Re: diy broken key fix idea

Here's the first thing I recorded with it right after getting it up and running. Love this beast already. It's going to fill the gap between my mopho and blofeld nicely.

diy broken key fix idea

So I got an alesis ion off of Craig's list the other day for just 160 bucks, but the catch is it had 6 broken keys, the pitch mod wheel is pushed down into the socket and the tempo knob is broken. The mod wheel assembly will need complete replacement as will the pot, but I was thinking of finding a ...

Re: Odyssey or Axxe?

What about a solus? you get everything in an odessy but sample&hold and noise. Harder to find (I had one drop in my lap last week) but I'm really enjoying it more than I thought I would and mine even has a dead voice. They have more oscillators and go for only a couple hundred more than an axxe...ju...

Re: Name ONE favorite pedal (+more)

Ehx stereo memory man w hazarai is insane. The echo section is great the delay kranked to really fast settings turns it into a filter and almost a ring mod, is stereo, and it loops. Next is the moogerfooger ring mod. Its amazing for drums, synths, and guitars and can do tremolo or add harmonics to p...

Re: Any valve brass players here?

I grew up playing the trumpet for a while. The inbetween part of the valve is a muted and choking type sound with a slightly irregular pitch. Almost like a choking tonedeaf duck. Most people avoid that sound at all costs but occasionally a bit of valve hitting just so could sound good for jazz. The ...

Re: Micro Q for dubstep??

I think what everyone is saying here is that dubstep is largely created post-synth to take things beyond synth a vs synth b. massive is a fav of many due to the ability to get multiple modulations at once so maybe look for things that have extensive envelopes and mod matrices but also maybe try reco...

Re: First synth - damn low budget

Being in your same situation months ago I got a mopho and ended up with the keyboard as the sound possibilities are so great and the sound for the price is great. Plus you can get some cool polys in the iPad. A good poly costs real cash where a cheaper analog mono gets you so much more as far as twe...

Jp8000 vs blofeld

I have an offer to trade a jp8000 for my blofeld and I'm unsure. I have been lusting after the Roland for ages but I know that I haven't been able to really even scratch the surface of the blofeld. Any insight? I make ambient dub and autecre mostly but also mix synths with garagey guitar riffs too. ...

Re: Building a case for my keyboard... I have questions

I've built a lo of different things out of wood, including guitars, amp cases, tables, etc. I'd say first off 3/4 in plywood is overkill. You'd be better off using a thin birch plywood as it has better tensil strength and could be thinner than even 1/2in and still be effective. I'd try to avoid push...

Re: effects - mangler, bit crusher, etc.

If you're into aggressive tones, you should look into a few things. First, get yourself an old school boss distortion pedal. I got an sd-1 for like 25 bucks and it rules for screaming leads, especially when I pair it with a moogerfooger ring mod and play with the mix to get some really great tones. ...

Re: 1st Mooger?

I've tried them all and the ring mod is super musical and the only one I still own. For me, I love running drums through it and getting some great tonal additions, triggered by the lfo section. The freq box is interesting but damn it gets distorted really quick. The main thing I love about all the f...

Re: question about synth combinations / polychaining

Yeah, you can put all kinds of things together with midi too. I was using a cz-5000 + mopho connected with just midi and it sounded crazy. Got all the weird CZ brassy poly sounds with the mono voice of the mopho and it was serious fun. you just dial in the volume just so on each and it can get you s...

Re: Thoughts on possible synth purchase

also, for layering and multitracking a monosynth is invaluable. Have you considered a DSI desktop module like an evolver or mopho? Granted neither do a ton, but a good controller for vsts and a DSI box give you a certain character that you don't have. I use the mopho for a lot of sounds that fall ou...
