Re: Korg DW-8000 needs... new battery?

Okay, since the battery replacement, the same problem is still happening. What will happen is I will load a patch (or just turn the synth on) and no sound will happen. Only after a certain time the sound will fade in and 'fizzle' out at regular intervals. The only other thing I can think of besides ...

Re: Korg DW-8000 needs... new battery?

I asked him to double check, had I known there was already a battery holder soldered on, I would've just done this at home, but he closed it up and didn't take a good look to save me some cash. It definitely needs work other than the battery. One thing I've noticed is wrong, and has been wrong since...

Re: Korg DW-8000 needs... new battery?

Thanks, rhino. Had someone pop it open to desolder the old battery, and it turns out someone down the line had already replaced the battery, and also had soldered a battery cage on it. So the guy replaced it anyway, and I'm about to load a set of patches to see if they hold.

Korg DW-8000 needs... new battery?

It seems that right about now in the life cycle of all the DW-8000s the internal patch memory batteries seem to be dying, which might be the case here. When I got the synth in the mail last week, half of the patches didn't make any sound at all, and the other half, some of the voices didn't seem to ...

Re: Best Linux software for synth nerds and producers?

This is a good start! I actually tried Simple Sysexxer, but it wasn't built for my distro, and I've always failed at building that stuff from source. But soon I'm getting a MIDI-USB interface in, and will likely find a way to get that to work, as well as the suggested JSynthLib, seeing as I have a D...

Re: Brick-and-Mortar synth stores in the PNW?

I feel you there. Also recently been informed of a place in Vancouver WA called "Adventures in Analog"... Overpriced for the bargain-hunter in me, but still very cool that such a place exists.

Best Linux software for synth nerds and producers?

Being a Linux user has it's share of ups and downs. The ups usually come in the form of, "This is almost exactly what people are paying for and pirating, and I'm getting it for free, ha-ha! And it looks better!", and the downs are usually, "Why hasn't anyone ported this... and that... oh, and that t...

Re: Brick-and-Mortar synth stores in the PNW?

Nothing constant, but Trade Up Music and Old Town Mudic here in Portland get some stuff in... Thanks! I'll have to check them out. I found a few stores that buy auctioned off storage and made my presence known. Maybe they'll give me a call someday! I can see it now... "Hi, we found something you mi...

Re: Trying to prevent expensive MIDI nightmare.

EDIT: The nightmare really comes from the MFB... Wouldn't you think a drum machine would WANT to send clock data to the rest of the chain through MIDI? Is there a reason for this I don't understand? A combination of keeping the price down and because most people have a master sequencer of some kind...

Re: Trying to prevent expensive MIDI nightmare.

Personally, the sound of the tb303 isnt worth chasing down so vigorously. Its an awesome machine, with a quirky sound, but I wasnt impressed after owning one for a while. It's wiser to go with something realistically useful/more versatile, but if you're obsessed with it, thren dont hold back. I agr...

Re: Trying to prevent expensive MIDI nightmare.

Thought about buying one of the 303 clones out there, but still, $600 is almost twice as much as what the Domino costs. I had the sequencer sitting around, and only recently noticed it had MIDI. One good thing about it (pretty much the ONLY good thing about it) is that it stores a ton of songs and p...

Trying to prevent expensive MIDI nightmare.

I am beginning to have the ability, and the funds, to start purchasing audio equipment. One idea I had was to buy a cheap MIDI sequencer, like a Yamaha QY-10 and attach it to something with a VCO and a nice filter, i.e. an Eowave Domino to get some facsimile of a 303 without dropping a grand. Learni...

Re: Brick-and-Mortar synth stores in the PNW?

Since so many people have been looking, but not responding, I figured I'd post my findings. Went to the friendly, local guitar shop, Capital City Guitars and asked someone there. Haven't checked myself, yet, but here's a short list of places he came up with offhand; Trading Musician , Seattle Guitar...

Brick-and-Mortar synth stores in the PNW?

Hello, new here! Recently I've grown tired of looking on eBay for synths, and the local craigslist doesn't offer much of an alternative out here. Basically, I'm looking to see if anyone knows any physical stores near Olympia, WA that sell synths. I'll be willing and totally able to go as far south a...
