putting pieces together / sampler / newb

I'm looking for opinions on how to pull the pieces of my set-up together. The primary goal being to continue to dive in and learn recently acquired VAs, the secondary goal being to create tracks. Don't want to use a computer. Gear: -emx1 -mc 505 groovebox -ms-2000r and microkorg (microkorg is going ...

Re: Korg EMX-1 upgrade suggestions

I'm not sure about what to suggest for an upgrade, but i think you should be able to solve some of the midi issues. try digging in the midi utility (midi > shift + key 12) to try and turn off sending unwanted messages. it's here: http://www.korg.com/uploads/Support/EMX1_Manual_633660067695790000.pdf...

Re: Need help deciding on first synth/rhythm sequencer!

what about saving a bit for a used emx-1? i think you should be able to get one for $300 or less? you will have more synth parts and flexibility than the em-1 (and the arpeggiator is sort of dope). i don't know about the sound difference between the two. i have an emx-1 and a roland mc-505. although...

Re: Korg DW-8000 as a first synth?

@visceralvoids i've actually grabbed a microkorg on craigslist fairly cheep. the interface is really pretty easy and the little thing is fun. figure if i keep using it a lot then i'll start saving for the ms2000r or something else and resell the microkorg (or hang on to it). so thanks for all the ad...

Re: Korg DW-8000 as a first synth?

so, at the risk of being annoying... in terms of programming patches and learning about synthesis, is the microkorg's interface going to be prohibitive or slow me down at all? i've read that synths with knobby interfaces like the ms-2000 can help the user understand how and why things are happening....

Re: Korg DW-8000 as a first synth?

MS2000/2000b/microKorg all have the same DWGS digital waves the DW-8000 has, but with a more powerful and independent analog style engine, better modulation and routing options. thanks! sounds like you would lean towards the microkorg then (the small keys shouldn't be an issue to me). i've read her...

Korg DW-8000 as a first synth?

Would this make sense? I'm a newbie and can't really play a keyboard. I'm not interested in presets, I want something to learn more about patch creation on and also synch via midi. I have two groove boxes (korg emx, and roland mc-505), but feel limited by the sounds I can get out of the emx and want...
