Re: The Poly 800 Appreciation Thread

I used one for some home recordings in the 80s and love love loved it- I still have the recordings and find nothing lacking in the sound of that synth- I concur! Underrated for sure! And great freaking song by the way! you might like this, a Moog Prodigy based number: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Mini D vs. Voyager

as much as we love to fuss with these concerns, after a long time doing this,it's more apparent than ever to me that character comes from the player, not the instrument. i'd argue that the timbre does, too - but I won't bother to argue it as i couldn't give a f**k if you understand this or not. it's...

Re: FWIW Chick Corea's latest elektrik rig

how's he able to lay his Voyager panel flat? my 1/4 inch cables on mine get in the way- nice to see a mini player obviously choosing to use a Voyager! like Bernie, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Wakeman!

Re: What is the original of this song?

back to the original gear question though, I wonder what's making the foghorn sound? mid/late 80s, was this "trio" based in a Soviet territory? so maybe the synth could be a Polivoks? or one of these! http://www.ebay.com/itm/AELITA-3-VCO-RAREST-VINTAGE-USSR-SOVIET-ANALOG-SYNTHESIZER-EXCELLENT-CONDIT...

Re: Which bands use hardware synths?

I saw Rush in the late 80s, and was disappointed to see AND hear the absence of the minimoog- I can't remember which digital synth Geddy substituted those parts onto, but it made a big sonic difference- Fast forward to last year's tour! There were many parts that were triggered samples, but those ic...

Re: What We Talk About When We Talk About Synths

It's like buying a nice new Fender Telecaster. No, it won't sound exactly like a 1951 Tele, but it will sound exactly like a Telecaster. haha! Yes! I got roasted on a Gretsch guitar forum for selling a '64 and buying a 2005- The only thing I sacrificed was resale value- the "Gretsch sound" was stil...
