Re: I have a soft spot for...

All things Casio. I have three CZ-101s, now, so I just need one more. I have a CZ-5000 and an RZ-1. I even have the TB-1 MIDI thru box. There's just something about that drab color scheme and framed rectangular LCD screen that has become a part of me. And then there's the toys...MT-68, CT-410V, SK-1...

Gear used by Atom

I just got a reissue/remaster of Lassigue Bendthaus: Matter. It's a double cd with some extra mixes released recently by Mecanica Records. It's an EBM classic. Anyhow, he lists gear used on the cd as: Matrix 1000, Prodigy, VZ-10 (I think), RX-5 and QX-5. Is that really all he used to make that massi...

Re: Novation Peak

Why would it not be a true 12-voice? :? Oh right. My badsies. I think I was thinking about the second oscillator, not the voice count. Point taken. Still, it doesn't feel like an outrageous price to me. I don't know if I would be able to afford one for some time, but I don't find that price too hig...

Re: Novation Peak

24 mHz sampling is a fantastic idea, it should be alias free even with heavy audio rate modulations. 8 voices from just FPGAs is testament to how far that technology has come since it emerged 35 years ago. Yes, but not when it's priced as high or higher than analog synths with similar or higher voi...

Re: Novation Peak

And the Poly war has finally begun. Looks very promising.

And to think, it probably all started with the lowly Gakken.

Aesthetically, it's also quite reminiscent of the Wave. A nice reminder of its pedigree.

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly

It seems like the ideal hybrid. Really powerful synthesis possibilities; can do traditional subtractive or digital wavestation style. But it also has a sampling input for granular synthesis. I think it represents the state of the art. For all those people who were clamoring for something new, I thin...

PWM bass is something I usually use to put new synths through their paces. Nothing like that punchy metallic tone...

Maybe Monologue, actually. Even though it is quite diminutive, it has features the Mini doesn't, if I'm not mistaken. Still thinking of getting one myself--I'm more tempted by it than by the Mini.

Re: Tats Is Leaving Korg ...

Now that my massive man-crush is stepping down from Korg, does it mean goodbye to the Volca? (I like that he explained the name finally--makes sense) The two most recent modules are pretty cool. My wife bought me the FM and the Kick this year and they're both great. I hope there's someone to carry t...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

Fun thread! =D> 1) The synth that made you want to play music: Probably DX-7 and MS-20. Why? Because everyone cool I was listening to in the late 90s had an MS-20. And Covenant rocks a DX-7 all over the place. 2) Your first synth: Poly-800, baby. Still have it, now modded. 3) The synth that has surp...

MANTHER, MR. Q, and...??

An intriguing trio. Mono, Wavetable with analog components, and Drums. Korg could have beat them (whoever they are) to the punch. Looks in line with SH-101 and MC-202 style-wise. Re: NAMM 2017

Gearslutz's electonic music forum is actually a comedy forum  So very, very true. I often find it provides hours of entertainment. Unfortunately, it's becoming a magnet for CEOs and company reps; paradoxically, it's one of the first places that synth news breaks. So I take the absurd with the ...
