Re: Collecting the entire MKS series: Insane goal?

So the oscillators are enough to make the difference between 70 and 80, even with the same filter? I passed on a 70 for $390 that needed a new battery because I figured the 70 would just be a cheaper sounding version of the 80 - no PWM, slower envelopes, keytrigger LFO. Also, the 80017a in the 7 and...

Collecting the entire MKS series: Insane goal?

EDIT: Yes, the general consensus is that this is insane and pointless.

The original three (10, 30, and 80) will satisfy the collector in me while still being useful.

Re: Using 100V Japanese-Made Synths in the U.S.

My Alpha Juno says it's for 100V - I've been running it mostly fine. But, I had an overheating scare - the display went out and the sound went all screwy. That was after a full day of it being on, though, and it turned on fine the day after. I'm planning on getting the converter to be safe.

Roland XP-80 key weights

My Roland XP-80 is currently missing about 20 natural key weights and 2 sharp key weights because of the goop meltdown. Anyone selling key weights? I can't seem to find them. The natural weights are 10g and the sharp weights are 11g. I'm thinking that if I can't find the original weights, I'd use 10...

Re: Sight Unseen Horror Stories

I bought an XP-80 knowing it was one of the boards that could suffer the Roland Red Goop, advertised as 100% working. Sure enough, it was in the early stages of goop by the time I got it.

Re: Synths that you loved before, but have now gone off

I enjoyed my D-5 for the one or two months that it was my only synth. Now I'm waiting to get replacement keys so I can sell it rather cheap.

Re: Thoughts on "time envelopes" and this forum

I predict that rapidly increasing processor power will mean the same thing for vintage synth enthusiasts as it did for retro gamers - emulation will become the easiest and most popular way to experience the classics. Emulation will also allow for what never was - people have translated Japanese-only...

Re: Which JX to complement Alpha Juno?

The KIWI-3P + Patch Editor wins on a limited budget. However, my budget has expanded to roughly $2000-3000, so I have gone with an MKS-80 Super Jupiter (rev. 5).

Now, I have the MKS-30 on the way. I need that IR3109, even if it was en-crap-sulated in that 80017A thing.

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 5 (i know)

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar99/articles/retroprophet.htm here is the article i mentioned in my initial post - it was written in 1999 and i think it probably is not a good representation of today's viewpoints for most analog synth users - i think i will still be buying that prophet 600 :) Yea...

Which JX to complement Alpha Juno?

I recently got an Alpha Juno 2, and am considering buying a JX in the relatively near future (<1 year) to get sounds the αJuno can't do (and vice versa). I was originally seriously considering the 3P as my first keyboard, until I found the D-5 and αJuno for cheaper. With the IR3109 filter, it has a ...
