Re: Fader Sensibility JP-8000

Per Jexus: http://syntezatory.net.pl/roland_jp8000.htm

Apparently this is a common issue affecting JP-8000s. I don't have any info on how to fix it though.

Re: So... Why no love for Jordan Rudess?

Is it weird that I like him *because* of his product endorsements? I have only ever heard a couple Dream Theatre songs, not really my cup of tea, but it can be really hard to find recordings of talented musicians playing odd/alternative keyboards/controllers. Rudess' videos showcase what these instr...

Re: Anyone here burned out on modern analog?

I haven't owned much modern analog, just a Monotribe and a Minibrute. I got rid of both. Part of it was the lack of presets, but even more so, the lack of MIDI control over the synth's parameters. Hands-on is nice, but it's not everything.

wtf? A monotron is a toy. The synths he listed are all great instruments.

Re: Poll: how do you feel about pirated/cracked DAW software

I tend toward being anti-piracy with regards to DAWs. There are just so many free and low-cost recording solutions out there that I can't really see any justification for stealing the expensive stuff. I would think the Steinbergs of this world would rather want you to use a cracked Cubase than a ra...

I should have mentioned it earlier, but what's wrong with grabbing samples? Dozens of the most famous synth claps have been sampled and released free.

Re: Korg Gadget -- toy or capable of more?

It's both. Are there more "serious", feature-filled DAWs out there? Yeah, definitely. Are there any with the simplicity, portability and immediacy of Korg's Gadget? Not really. It's the limitations here that make it what it is. A dozen or so instruments, a simple interface, that's all you get. Make ...

Re: How important are a synth's presets?

I put somewhat important because it describes how I use presets, but it depends on what you mean by important. On the one hand, I often use presets as a jumping off point when writing music; it's so much easier to scroll through a couple, find the one that's close to what I want, and continue writin...

Re: Why are Casio CZ synth prices so high?

I think they're still bargains for what they can do. They get a lot of flak for a limited architecture, and while they don't have a virtual mod matrix or anything like that, I think there's more depth to them than people realize. You just have to approach them on their own terms instead of treating ...

Re: Hand clap sound????

I found a patch recipe for a CZ-101 handclap. By itself it sounded ok, but really came alive when you hit three keys at once, slightly out of time. I actually like it better than a lot of classic claps. I'll try and find the patch recipe for you to look at, though it may not help. It makes extensive...

I'm gonna go with the parts for a TTSH. It's like getting $8,000 worth of synth for $1000, plus it's in the form of the world's most bad a*s Lego set.

Not vintage at all, but I bet you'd have a ton of fun with a Korg Microsampler.

It sounds like in the case of the KP3, he would be using an iPod as his "sampler" and then using the KP3 as an live effects processor. This is something it's actually quite well suited for.
