Re: Gear Trading Thread

Have:
-- Korg Kaoss Pad 3. Little beat up, but works great.
-- KMI QuNeo. Mint condition. I'm too colorblind to really use it.

Want:
Surprise me. I'm into stuff I can fiddle with live. Oddball stuff. Drum machines and sequencers. Strange sounds. Lo-fi.

Re: New analog boxes from Korg?

I think Stab's on the money there, for the pricepoint they *are* toys, albeit intersting ones with some potential. Don't go thinking they're the next 808/303 etc, because they're obviously not. Take them for what they are and you shouldn't be dissapointed. The emphasis is on fun , maybe sometimes t...

The point is to generate publicity for Moog by getting synth nerds to start Internet threads about their knobs.

Re: Most abused synths/tones

ORCHESTRA HIT. I've finally stopped hearing it in pop songs. Yes, I am hating on the orchestra hit. It has ALWAYS sounded cheesy and ridiculous. Man, was the 90s the decade of the orchestra hit or what? Well, the late 80s too... Hehe, I love orchestra hits, but then I like a lot of early-'90s stupi...

Re: New analog boxes from Korg?

Man, I just can't wait to hook all three of these up with a Monotribe. It sounds as though they will accept midi sync, which will make for an elegant solution to integrating the Monotribe into a DAW set up, but on the other hand, it's going to be really fun putting together an entire set with just t...

Re: Keeping My Roland JP8000 By A Window

Even if it's protected from sunlight, there's the issue of humidity working it's way into synth and potentially causing problems. My previous apartment had a basement which I kept all my gear in, so I set up everything next to this window since it had the best lighting. After three years of sitting...

Re: Long shot on MIDI controller. Any ideas?

Have you looked into a KMI QuNeo? There are technically only sixteen pads, but each pad has both velocity and x/y sensitivity, which allows for a lot of flexibility in set up. There is actually a preset layout for Launchpad emulation, which turns the corner of each pad into its own velocity-sensitiv...

Re: 505/606/626/707?

Honestly, if you don't yet unrest and why you might want one of these hardware units, don't waste your money. That's not to say that they aren't excellent instruments, but rather that their current market price is driven largely by nostalgia and name recognition. If you don't have a very clear idea ...

Re: thoughts on the rocket vs monotribe

The Rocket, it seems to me, is a more "serious" synthesizer in that can actually be played using a controller, something that couldn't be done with an unmodified Monotribe. For that reason ... it's pretty hard to compare the two. True until a few weeks ago, when the Monotribe got native cv/gate con...

Re: Ableton live - Which Version?

What kind of information are you looking for here? Look at the list of new features in Live 9. Would your band be able to make use of them?

Without any idea what you want to use ableton for, there's no way for us to know if the extra features are worth the money for you.

Re: Need a Basic Sampler with Pretty Basic Features

Are you needing to tweak things live or change up the order mid-set? Is this something that a CD player could do?

Re: Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?

Quick update, I used SysEx Librarian to send a string straight from my computer to the board, and the JX responded (I assume correctly): the patch number began to flash, which indicates an altered, unsaved patch... So at the very least I know the keyboard is functioning ok and that the $200 purchase...

Re: Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?

Are you sure that you've set the JX8P's sysex mode to ON? That would account for being able to send notes to it, but it not recognizing sysex messages. See page 25 in the manual. That was the first thing I checked. :) Oh how I wished that had solved my problem! FWIW though, I didn't completely unde...

I will try that and post results later today. I'm really hoping its something like an incorrect string, even though I can't find the issue.

Why might a JX-8P not respond to midi sysex?

The JX-8P I bought on ebay finally arrived... It's in a bit rough shape, and the keyboard needs a bit of work (common problem with JX-8Ps), but near as I can tell, everything is working just fine. It makes sounds and it makes the right sounds and it does so consistently over MIDI. Only problem is th...
