Re: What was the first song you learned on your first synth?

The first synth I bought myself was a brand new (at the time, obviously) Sequential Circuits Prophet 600. I also got a Roland TR-909 as a gift from my Dad around the same time which I was slightly disappointed with because I really wanted the Linn Drum my neighbor had, and at the time, the TR-909 wa...

Re: DSI PRO 2

Looks and sounds great. I still have to hold out for my pre-ordered Moog Sub 37, but this Pro 2 will be next for me. And it seems it will go great with the forthcoming Dave Smith Modulars ... You did all notice that in the video right? https://scontent-a-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/t1.0-9/...

Re: Moog Theremini

I received my Theremini the other day and it sounds and plays quite nicely. The construction/feel of it is pretty cheap though; more plasticky than I had hoped (including the antennas which feel plastic with a metallic powder-coating.) But it plays just like an analog Theremin when the pitch correct...

Re: Moonfall - Parts I and II

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words.

And as much as I am a hardware guy usually, this was my first test(s) of Native Instruments Reaktor which I got a couple of weeks ago during their $99 sale (though the piano is the e-instruments Grand Piano pack for Ableton Live.)

Moonfall - Parts I and II

These are just quick experiments inspired by that sort of 1970s Synth Soundtrack sound ala Brian Eno -

Sloppy percussion on the first track was played live via the Korg Wavedrum.

Re: have any groups made country music with synths?

Buck Owens bought a big Moog modular back in the day. I've been to Buck Owens studio in Bakersfield when I was a kid as he was a family friend of ours (my Dad was a well known Country DJ from the 1960s to the 80s) ... but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the first, straight up country song to use...

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini - MIDI

I wish there was a way to choose what MIDI channel the MS-20 mini receives; still researching this to see if there is a hidden something or other to allow this. Nope, a quick look at the midi implementation chart shows that changing the midi channel is not supported with this revision of the USB mi...

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini - MIDI

I should clarify. I am trying to send two different MIDI sequences but the MS-20 Mini only receives MIDI on channel 1. Currently, I am only able to control one synth. I'm wondering if there is something out there that can receive MIDI on say, channel 2 and convert it to channel 1 for the second MS-...

Re: Is the ms20 mini a good entry point into modular synthes

Doepfer Dark Time Mmm, I'm sold on this being the next purchase. Ha might be a few months before I can do it but that is perfect looking not only in function but my current space constraints It's a really great combo, you won't be disappointed. Here is a short excerpt I did with the Dark Time seque...

Re: Moog Sub 37

Does anyone still know if it'll be shipping this month? I've ordered this synth but it says it is still not in production on the Moog site. Nope, the word I got is it has been pushed back to at least June 27th, but more likely the first week of July. I was one of the first 30 to order. Originally i...

Re: I AM Electro ~ Vocoder Suggestions

I use to have an Electro Harmonix EH-0300 vocoder which was one of the best sounding vintage Vocoders I've ever used. But now, since the first week it came out, I use (and love) the Electrix Warp Factory. I'm sure you can find them on Ebay. Here is the first video I could find on it (not my video) -...

Re: Is the ms20 mini a good entry point into modular synthes

I agree with Marc, if you want to get into Modular, get modules... but it sounds like the OP is getting the MS-20 mini anyway, which is a great synth, so do what I did and get the Doepfer Dark Time to sequence it! It's fun and it will at least get you started with learning about CV. Then you can gra...
