Re: What are your PC set ups?

HP doesn't skimp on the VRM for the second CPU, so it was just a matter of getting a CPU with the same stepping and a heat sink VRM? Can you explain this statement to me so I understand? OP, I too procured my Workstation off ebay. Just keep a watch for a good deal. They do show up, but you have to ...

Re: What are your PC set ups?

I recently upgraded with advice from Ashe, thank god.. otherwise I mighta bought a terrible system. I ended up getting a off lease Dell Precision t5500 It came to me with one 2.26 4c Xeon, 4gig ram, lic. for Win7, a Nvidia Quattro card. No Hard Drive. ~$230 I simply got a Win7 image, loaded it on a ...

Re: Roland S760

It's that scsi drive use for extended storage that would drive me nuts. I tried dealing with that 2nd gen. SCSI it uses on a AKAI S2000XL and it was a huge headache.. The AKAI sounded great, but when I got turned on to Kontakt, I realized I had the same sound in a MUCH easier work flow with seemingl...

Re: Akai MPK 49

If you know how to read midi hex msg's, here is a sample of me hitting my MPK61 in a progressively harder hit each time.. the red number is the velocity value(80 3C 00 is Note Off) As you can see, I tried to be progressive, but the first 3x were the same, 01. Then I get it to do 0F (15 in decimal), ...

Wasn't there a time when Korg was owned by Yamaha, or still is?

Re: Akai MPK 49

If you are asking about the Key Velocity settings, there is only On and Off to choose from. No adjustment in between at all. I had issues with my keys not playing a note on my MPK61unless I hit them pretty hard. Ended up that I had to take the keybed apart and shim underneath the keys with a tiny th...

Re: Arturia Beatstep - First impressions...

Thanks for sharing your findings.

Hope Arturia can get 0v CV with a simple firmware patch.

Are the encoders smooth or do they have detents when you turn them?

Re: rather have 2 synths to play or multi track

6 months to fix a synth... Boy that takes me back to around 1998 when the only local certified Akai repairman in my city had my S3000xl for that long to change the damn fuse for the SCSI port voltage regulator. I woulda changed it myself, but it was warranty work. I wanted to strangle that SOB for d...

Re: Reminder: it is still about the player not the gear ....

I can admire a group of players grooving together as seen in the vid, but I fail to understand what was so spectacular about the keyboard playing.

Re: Question about Poly 800 mods

So I take it you don't care for the Korg DW8000 or DSS1 either since they both have the same filter chips as the Poly800? I thought the Korg filter sounds great and that was why most people rave about the DW and DSS1. I agree that the Poly800 DCO's are lacking, A LOT! It doesn't have a true sawtooth...

Re: Question about Poly 800 mods

The uP controls the EG's. So no, you cannot do a simple analog mod to control the EG's. I should have said you could access the VCA's on the filter chip if you wish, but not much exciting can be done to it like the filter cutoff and resonance can be. Definitely get the HAWK800, it will give you comp...
