Making A Rompler Rancid

I'm not sure what the antonym of sterile is so I went with Rancid. ;) I've got a Roland Rompler I've had for a long while. I don't plan on getting rid of it because it's so buggy that I couldn't in good faith sell it to anyone. And over the years I've even gotten halfway decent at programming it. My...

Re: What's your favorite synthesis method--

Taking the first default sound that the synth comes on with, like bank A program 1, and modifying it to sound like a distorted tb-303. Why? Because it is the first thing it comes on to, why waste more energy pushing a few more buttons or scrolling more knobs? I suppose this method would probably co...

Re: Roland Modular

I left modular a couple years ago after a brief venture, looks like I'm going back! The Sytem 500 is very appealing. I love the classic Roland sound. That juicy filter is probably my favorite ever.

Re: MicroBrute - How awesome is it?

I feel the need to defend 12 db/ octave filters. I honestly have heard plenty of ones that I like or love: Oberheim, MS-20, Yamaha CS-15, Dreadbox's new Erebus, just for starters. Don't get me wrong, I love 24 db / octave too, but I feel like 12 db / octave gets a bad wrap sometimes. I think you can...

Re: Freaqbox Murmux

Anyone every get one of these? I still would like to get one someday. I think it has a really great raw sound, makes me think of the 70s. And it looks like the price has come down a bit since I originally saw it. Perfect Circuit sells them for $1,070. I really like what Dreadbox (previously Freaqbox...

Check out Dreadbox's Erebus! Looks great to me and is the right price.

Re: CS-80 Sounds

So now knowing this was a string machine, I think what I'm missing is not on the synthesis side exactly but the appropriate chorusing effect.

You could be right, but I always assumed it was the CS-80.

CS-80 Sounds

First, I apologize for making a "how do I make X sound" post, but I do love this sound. Anyway, it's that classic string sound from the CS-80. Here's an example of it floating behind behind the piano sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGzYl1cszg8 When trying to produce this sound I use 4 detuned...

Record anything to cassette tape and it sounds vintage. ;)

Damn it, looks like I very well may have to buy something by Roland again. I don't know how I feel about having all of those lights in my face though. It'd be nice if you could turn them off.

Umm... So, the Sample is shipping now? Or is this just to generate more sales? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VolcaSample From the sweetwater page: "Now Shipping! Yes, it's true! We have begun receiving initial shipments of Korg's new Volca Sample, and we are shipping as many pre-orders as ...

Re: How do you decide a synth is not for you ?

For me it comes down to if I both use it and if I enjoy it. I use my piece of c**p Roland Juno-G still all the time. I'd sell the turd if I didn't have an ethical obligation to not allow a buggy machine like that into another person's hands. It is NOT enjoyable to use. But when I need the rompler so...

Re: Anyone here burned out on modern analog?

There still aren't many polyphonic modern analogues, so I would definitely say no! I am not interested in DSI unfortunately so there aren't many options for me to choose from, let alone get burnt out on. Furthermore, I'd say there aren't too many smooth sounding monophonic synths out there either. A...
