Re: Geddy Lee/Rush synths

I think that site is most likely wrong. Unfortunately anyone can edit a Wiki, so it's not hard for bogus information to be posted. The 1984 Keyboard magazine interview for example makes no mention of anything besides Mini, OBXa, JP8, PPG, DSX, and TR808, on Grace Under Pressure . Its likely. I've n...

Geddy Lee/Rush synths

I've come across this Rush Wiki site that lists the keyboards, Basses and other gear Geddy has used pretty much all through his career. But what intrigued me was it lists that he used a Prophet 5 on Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures as well as a Roland System 700m on MP, and a Fairlight CMI on Sig...

Re: What should each company make next?

Why is it everyone just wants remakes of what manufacturers have already made? Lets move past the endless vintage reissues and start innovating, I mean I'm all for new analog synths and the MS-20 mini is great and all but surely we can think up something a little more interesting? Why be limited wi...

Re: What should each company make next?

Basically, this thread could be named "EVERYONE SHOULD MAKE ANALOG SYNTHS, PRONTO (preferably remakes of 70s stuff)" Pretty much  But I mean just at least one or two models of a 70s reminiscent analog synth, not too much to ask I think. Just something to appeal to us Analog nuts. Look at how b...

Re: What should each company make next?

DSI- Keep what they're doing and never learn the word "Workstation." Though knowing them it might actually be good. But in all seriousness, a re-issue upgrade of the T8 would be sweet. Or the P10. Ok now I'm just dream   Moog - Bring back the Modular. Like a full on Model 3C. But all joke...

Re: ID this keyboard

After doing some research, it looks like a Schimmel Crystal Grand. Plexiglass. I guess they only made a few. I think it said at one time they even has some made out of glass! But yeah its a very cool looking Piano. I wonder if theres any videos on it. Aside from Mellotron, Hammond Organ, and...

ID this keyboard

(I'd post this on a Piano forum but I don't feel like making an account on one just to ask this, and someone here might know) I'd like someone to identify this Piano. It says Roland and I'm guessing its a fancy digital piano in a Grand Piano case but it looks like an acoustic Piano. I've never heard...

Re: Favorite Mellotron performances.

No mention of arguably the most heard mellotron line...the flute in Strawberry Fields? Brief but iconic. I'm not sure there is a bad mellotron line though. I have always loved the sound of them. To be a stickler, a Chamberlin, not a Mellotron.... I've never seen any indication "Strawberry Fields" w...

Favorite Mellotron performances.

I'm a huge fan of the Mellotron. Its my favorite keyboard instrument. While only somewhat realistic, its sounds have their own character and are like no other. These are some of my favorite performances of it. The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rkgm1yGgbM I'm a h...

Re: Most abused synths/tones

Dunno about "pop hacks" since I don't listen to pop music, but I'm tired of YouTube synth demos with: String Ensemble through Small Stone phaser through delay "Blade Runner CS-80" lead People act like there's no other synth heroes beside Jarre, Vangelis and Kraftwerk. I've see a bunch of videos of ...

Re: Dream Synth(s)

Not a synth, but I"ve been watching youtubes on the mellotron m4000d and I am in love!!! I'm a big fan of the new Streetly M4000, but I really like how the M4000D you can choose any two different sounds you want and blend them (on a tape machine you're limited to blending tracks A+B and B+C) and I ...

Re: Dream Synth(s)

Tough question...I suppose a MiniMoog and a Mellotron are my only dream machines. http://www.sequencer.de/pix/analogsynthesizer/mellotron.jpg Nice! I know if I got a Mini and a Tron I'd probably be happy enough to forget about the other synths I'd want haha. And shoot, add a Hammond Organ, Piano, a...

Re: Dream Synth(s)

I like some of the ones I'm seeing haha. I'll list a few more of mine. Polysynth: Definitely a Yamaha CS-80 (second on my want list only to the OB-X), Oberheim OB-Xa, 8 Voice (single manual and the rare dual manual), Roland Juno 60 (some of the best String patches I've heard), Jupiter 8, Prophet 10 ...
