Dream Synth(s)

The synth that you want the most. These are mine: Polysynth: Oberheim OB-X Monosynth: Minimoog model D Digital Synth: Prophet VS Workstation: Kurzweil K250 (or K2500) Other (Sampler): Mellotron. I know its not a synth, but its my favorite keyboard instrument of all time. If I ever get just one of th...

Re: My (and Your) Favorite Minimoog Solos

Moving on. I love the little synth bits at 6:46 and 14:51 on Yes's Close to the Edge. I'd assume those are the Minimoog. After all, Rick himself said that he had 8 at one time The 14:51 solo is definitely Hammond B3, not Minimoog. Great solo, tho. The Hammond solo starts at 15:00, at 14:51 there wa...

Re: My (and Your) Favorite Minimoog Solos

It's a song that in retrospect he and the others didn't like much, but I've always liked Geddy Lee's solos on Rush's "Countdown." +1 Prolly my least favorite track on Signals but the solo and bridge of Countdown is great. The bridge-solos in Subdivisions are simple yet tasty as well. http://www.you...

Re: Geoff Downes 1980s Keyboard rig

You missed Prophet 10, Solina String Ensemble, Hohner D6 clavinet. Looks like a CS80 off to the left. Tried to find a larger image online. I'm pretty sure I've got an old Keyboard magazine with a larger photo somehere. I just listed what I could see, the picture isn't the best. I wish there were so...

Geoff Downes 1980s Keyboard rig

http://kumanomix.cocolog-nifty.com/kumanomix/images/Asia.jpg And I thought Rick Wakeman used a lot of Keyboards on stage at once :o I can spot a Mellotron, a Fairlight, two Minimoogs, a Polymoog, Fender Rhodes, Yamaha CP, and thats about it. In this video he seems to be using even more keyboards. I...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

Subdivisions is my favorite song by them, how dare you!  There are plenty of Rush songs I don't care for. Entre Nous, Cyngus X-1/Hemispheres I'm starting to see the problem. :o Also I always kind of thought that 1980-1983 period of synthpop was wicked because they hadn't moved over enti...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

No. Rush's synth usage was always cheesy as f**k and over the top anyway. Distant early warning was a pretty neat pop song but aside from that euch. Subdivisions sounds like joke elevator music these days. Father time sucker punched that one in the stomach. Subdivisions is my favorite song by them,...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

Nope, full-on backing tracks - karaoke style. I have several friends who are Rush fanatics. They have each seen the band in excess of 2 dozens times. They've been complaining about the backing tracks for at least a couple of years now. Not sure when it started. Is it just for synth parts or ? I kno...

Re: Let's Dissect Geddy Lee's Use of Synthesizers; '82 - 84'

This should be of interest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSDnqcTMg4w&list=UUZRE67FTq9ueLGQNegrrArw&index=81 Yeah theres definitely a bit of Choir layered in there from about 0:27 to 0:44 and then 4:52 till the end of the song. Other than that at times it I wanna say I hear a faint bit of Choir, b...

Re: Let's Dissect Geddy Lee's Use of Synthesizers; '82 - 84'

FWIW, in the live footage from the Signals tour it looks like Geddy plays the voicy chords on the OB-Xa. Nice! That choir sound is a tad more prominent on Analog Kid than on Subdivisions where it's sorta layered in with the main sound. If I remember correctly Ged played Subdivisions from the OB-X (...

Re: Let's Dissect Geddy Lee's Use of Synthesizers; '82 - 84'

You're welcome themilford. The DSX does feature 8 CV and Gate outputs plus the Oberheim Digital interface. I don't think there was a connection between the Taurus and DSX, I just don't see why he would need a link between those. I too would like to know how the Taurus interfaced with the OB-Xa seei...

Re: Let's Dissect Geddy Lee's Use of Synthesizers; '82 - 84'

I know this is a bit old, but I've been reading up on Geddy's synths a lot lately, and really fascinated by all of it. I'm trying to figure out though if he used one of his Synths for the Choir sound on the chorus on Analog Kid, or something else. I would think the OB-X, OB-Xa or the Jupiter, but I ...

Re: Mellotron M5000

As soon as I posted this, I thought why don't I email Streetly or one of their distributors themselves. DUH!!! :? But then I don't know if I wanna bug them just for some pictures. I don't even know if the M5000 is available yet. Its not on their site. Though their site still says C 2009, and I think...

Mellotron M5000

I'm a huge fan of the Mellotron, its probably my favorite keyboard instrument. I've seen recently that Streetly is making a new model called the M4000 thats much improved and has a cycling system with 24 sounds. But I also read of another one they're making called the M5000 which is a dual manual ve...
