Re: Akai MPX8 "Sample Player" Teardown

Hi, It's really cool that you opened up the MPX8 . I was thinking of buying one but the main thing that put me off is that there is no battery power and people said the jog/data wheel is not great. Based on your pictures I guess there could be room for an internal lipo battery and charging c...

Re: Need EEPROM burned

rewiring the Piano to accept EEPROMs is a bit of a task for now so I'll do research because I'm confident one slip of the finger would kill my piano, so I ordered some 27C256 ROMS which Are drop in replacements but can only be burned once, so I'll just redo the stock piano rom for now and study the ...

Re: Name ONE favorite pedal (+more)

I gotta say my most favorite pedal is the Boss DS1, add a bit of crispy or crunchy to my K3 synth, sounds crazy with dual mono in, especially for deep bass.

I like nearly all the boss pedals for the fact you can tweak them out and there's lots of space for new switches and knobs too.

Re: Need EEPROM burned

What a cool idea. Would love to hear the results! Update, I got 2x AT28C256-15PC 256k Parallel Eeprom in the Mail from Atmel, they're Mostly direct drop in replacements for the rather ancient but cool looking Ceramic UVProms http://www.atmel.com/Images/doc0006.pdf http://hardware.speccy.org/datashe...

Re: Mysterious switch installed on DX7. Need help rewiring.

Hi guys I'm new here. I ordered a dx7 off of ebay. When it came I saw a red switch on the front that is absent on all other dx7 synths I've seen in pictures. I found no mention of it in the user manual. Figured it must be a mod from a previous owner. The switch didn't seem to do anything and after ...

Re: Excessively Smelly Gear

crush some charcoal briquets and lay it out on a small tray inside of the unit for a few days, it'll snuff up all of the strange smells. If it doesn't work, leave it for a few more days. If not. Try mixing 50/50 Sodium Bicarbonate Baking Soda and Crushed Charcoal in a small glass until it is a greyi...

UPDATE: the YM2151 differs in PINOUT too much and wont work unless an adaptor board is made. I am in the process of etching it.

Re: This is what happens when you put Casio SK-1 Rom in Kawa

You are a braver soul than I. I'm a big dork about anti static precautions when handling chips. I use chip tools whenever feasible. Though part of it is the mad scientist shtick to be honest. The fun part is if you unplug the CPU Program the LED display it'll scream at you for a while then send jun...
