I think its safe to say that one should have as many synths as they want or can afford, sonic variety is a good thing. I also agree that it's essential to learn how to program the synths you own and use in order to reach their full potential, and to reach one's full potential as a musician and sound...

These will really be a bargain on the used market in about a year. It's good to see Moog finally putting out kit at reasonable prices. I'm curious how close they will sound to their bigger brothers.

Good question, reminds me a lot of the ITB vs. OTB thread. I prefer a smaller setup myself. I like to use a couple keyboards and modules. Building songs with drum samples in my DAW as opposed to using a drum machine has been very liberating. The more gear I have, the more time I spend building patch...

JD990 = Monster synth on the cheap

JX3P = Classic Roland

AX80 = Beast

You could get a JD990 for around $400. Save space and get more advanced sounds than the JD800. Just a thought.

I'd recommend the Roland JX3P. If you're looking for vintage 70's AND 80's sounds, you'll want to go analog. The 3P will deliver more vintage sounds than the 106 because of it's more traditional architecture. The 3P gives you 2 osc's to work with and has fine tuning to get the classic phase sound. I...
