Re: Is there a decent (free) FB-01 editor for Windows?

Isn't there anything available for the Amiga? Or is there a generic Yamaha 4op editor for Windows, which could be configured to the FB?

Re: Decent and Affordable Workstation

For a second hand workstation with weighted action consider:
ASR 88, TS 12, KS 32 from Ensoniq
T 1, O1 W Pro/X from Korg
S 3 from GEM (semi weighted)

Why not get an Atari (ST/Mega) and track down a copy of Steinberg Synthworks or X-Syn? There are versions for most of your vintage gear.

Re: to recreate acustic sound the better is digital not anal

Honestly, there's very few acoustic instruments where any synthesizer is really a completely suitable substitute for the real thing. I've yet to hear a digital piano that radiates sound to fill a room the way an acoustic does, for example, and I've never heard a string ensemble, whether synthesized...

Personally, I prefer to play analog synths, but when it comes to recording, I prefer digital.
A large scale modular analog can do great reproductions, but to put one together is cost-prohibitive.

Grant,
SYSTEM button, MIDI page (button 3) should hold the RX menus - it's been a while since I used one, but it's in there, hope that helps

Re: Sampling Synth

If you're serious about vintage, Emax SE is a great sampler/synth, but you wont get gigs of RAM. Most of the Emu samplers are excellent. The V-Synth is an excellent, more modern iteration of the concept, as are the Korg Triton and Yamaha Motif series. Halion 5 as a softie gets a thumbs up from me as...

Re: Roland D-50/D-550 vs roland D-10/110

Back on topic, the D-10/20/110 & MT-32 sound incredibly thin next to the D-50, but not entirely useless. Totally correct, but the 110 has a couple of things that kept it in my rack from about '88 till '08 - namely 9 parts and 8 outputs - it never sounded as good as a D 50 in a straight comparison, ...

Re: Some questions about Roland Jv-1080

I'm curious to know if the JX-1 Rock Organ patch is on the JV-1080's Factory Sounds or on any of the JV Expansion Boards? I'd also like to know if this Choir patch from the U-220 is on the JV-1080's Factory Sounds or on any of the JV Expansion Boards? http://www.synthmania.com/Roland%20U-220/Audio/...

Re: Korg DW-8000 and its envelopes.

My question to ya'll is how do you incorporate BP and Slope in to your work and what type of sounds are suited for that type of programming?[/i] I use the BP and SL parameters for three things: plucked (fretted and un-fretted strings, plucked KBs) and hammered (AP, EP, dulcimer) "pre-attacks", and ...
