Re: JD-800 vs V-Synth

D-50s are hens teeth in Australia. Don't change hands that often, anyways. I see them quite often. Just had a quick look in my local shop and they just sold one: http://www.musicswopshop.com.au/stock?search=MSS+26087 I need to get out more.... And then, like buses, none for ages and now there seems...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000 VS Roland MKS-50

I had a Xpander and still have a MKS-50. Both instruments will meet your needs, but to answer your questions directly: Any sound source can sound thin if you want it to - if you want a thin sound the MKS has HPF Editing from the front panel? OB no, MKS yes - a generic knobby controller will handle t...

Re: JD-800 vs V-Synth

Serious question: if you don't like "overlap", why keep the D50? (I'm no Snow White in that regard either.) There are a ton of real similarities - but I think a question that needs to be asked is "if they were from different manufacturers, would I keep them?" Me, I'd probably keep them both (all thr...

Re: Roland JV vs Roland JX

I'm putting a JV-1080 back in the rack soon so pleased to see this. Could you post audio samples? And sysex? That would be very cool. :) I'll do both in due course, I'll Soundcloud the audio and up some single file sysex for the patches. I'll post when I've done it. I didn't save the JV copy patch ...

Re: new to synth! any recommendation?

If it's the sound of the Eighties you're after, there are two synths you should look at: Yamaha DX 7 SCI Prophet 5 Pretty much used by everybody. Of course, it also depends on your budget. A Pro 5 still commands high prices, but you could pick up a DX fairly cheaply. I second the JX 8P recommendatio...

Roland Super JX programming tips

I realised that I've owned an MKS 70 for 25 years now, and I'm surprised at a general lack of enthusiasm for this classic. I know there is a lot of bad press re the "crippled sysex" and the dual tone file system, but it is what it is, so you either learn to tame the beast, or give up. I didn't give ...

Roland JV vs Roland JX

Is the JV a poor mans' Super JX? This came up on the JV 880 review page, so I thought it would be better here than clog up the review page with what in essence is a classic synth shoot-out - analog v digital. I've owned and/or played most of the JV/XP (JV880/2080, XP30/50/60) line and the JX (3P/8P/...
