Re: Painting a synthesizer

I've never painted AL, I have powder coated it, but that not going to work for you (powder coating can be thick). I'd look into anodizing. It will take a color, but still look metallic. It's probably not something you do your self though.

Re: Which synth do you think has the nicest knobs ?

Regarding looks, I've always enjoyed the EMS VCO frequency knobs The great thing about EMS frequency knobs is the knob turns at a different rate from the outer ring, meaning a full turn of the inner knob will only mover the outer ring a small amount, making fine setting easier. It also feels great.

Re: Yamaha FB-01

What kind of DAW software and file type extension was used for composing songs with this synthesizer module? http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/fb01.php Basically the answer is "any DAW that supports MIDI." File extension is meaningless since the FB-01 can't read files. More detailed, the FB-01 is ...

Re: Why are patches missing on my Proteus 2?

How to confirm that a cable is sysex compatible? An additional concern I'm coming across is the issue of compatibility with windows 10. Anyone have any experience in that regard? thanks again to all for sharing your thoughts. I don't know exactly, but I'd avoid $5 Chinese adapters that have a brand...

you might look to see if you can find an old copy of sounddiver. You could also pay for midiquest.

Re: Why are patches missing on my Proteus 2?

just make sure that any usb/midi interface you buy supports SYSEX. A lot of the cheap ones don't, and if your whole issue is dumping patches back to the proteus, you will need it to work with SYSEX.

Re: Casio FZ1

Yes that's all. And the SCSI is tested proven to work with SCSI2HD. I think the racks are very overpriced compared to the keyboard version. Yes you potentially get a faster load time with SCSI, and twice the RAM. But if like me you're using the FZ as a colour machine ( that filter), and not as the ...

Re: Casio FZ1

I think I've talked myself into wanting an FZ. Rack is a must, so the FZ-1 is out. I had two question: - Is SCSI useful? I ask because a lot of older SCSI implementations have compatibility, size, format limitations. If it only works with strange ancient syquest disks, that's not particularly useful...

I completely forgot that I had one of these years ago. I never got sampling properly situated in my process back then, so it was happily sold. Now that I'm getting into sampling, I'd love to have one again, just to see what I could make with it, but their prices have gone way up.

Re: Rack Case, Need to Support Modules?

Most modules do not need rear support. My Kurzweil K2500R has a label that suggests supporting the rear during transportation, and that is a heavy SOB. But otherwise the only issue would be the balance of the rack itself, just make sure to put the heaviest stuff at the bottom.

Re: Waldorf Blofeld encoders - will stand the test of time?

I don't know about the Blofeld, but it seems pretty common to "fix" problem encoders (for example on the Yamaha A3000/A4000/A5000) by putting a capacitor between each of the change terminals and ground. I'm not an expert but as I understand it it absorbs the "bounce" signal that confuses the softwar...

Re: Comparing apples and ...

A point often missed about digital synths is they are not usually just a computer with software generating sound. Frequently the CPU really only handles UI, keyboard, MIDI and voice allocation. A lot of digital synths were a bunch custom chips each of which did som part of the sound in the digital d...

I think mean 'dismissive'. I'd hate to think how one could be submissive towards a synth.

you can now pitchbend via MIDI There is a God after all... :yahoo: Looked at the MIDI spec and see there is no support for mod wheel. All that PPC allowed was vibrato (it was in parallel to any LFO pitch modulation) and my old whiteface had no PPC anyway...I can live with that. Manual is here. If i...
