Re: ***Write Reviews For The VSE***

Is there any interest in including DIY kits, for instance by MFOS (not single modules, but complete synth or related units)?

Re: Why is it called the DX7 ?

Rumour has it that some people have actually seen a Roland RE-401 Chorus Echo... But no RE-4 ;). Numbers with two or more digits are not avoided as strictly as a simple "4". For instance, there are also "40D" and "400D" DSLRs by Canon (outdated now), but there never was a 4D :) . Okay, there is a K...

Re: Why is it called the DX7 ?

As I said, not a hard and fast rule, but the Japanese companies often did avoid 4's in product names compared to less unlucky numbers. Many Japanese companies avoid the 4, not only in synths or other musical instruments. They also do that with cars (as in Mazda 2, 3, 6, MX-5, CX-3, CX-5, CX-9, BT-5...

OK, it is August 8th a.k.a. 808 day: A four voice Boutique SH-101 named SH-01A: https://www.roland.com/us/products/sh-01a/ There are limited edition versions in red and blue. And the TR-08 (guess what that is  ) - not to be confused with the TR-8. https://...

Yep, the Japanese word for "4" (shi) also means "death".

Re: Saving patches DX7

Yes, I meant 'Store', sorry. Hmmm, just to see if you can save patches (as opposed to using sysex), you could create a patch in memory location 1 and see if you can save it to location 2. I think it is probably a good idea to save it externally via sysex as well, especially if it is something you p...

Re: MiniMoog bargain clone wars heat up

The real question is, how are Moog going to respond to this? Sadly by discontinuing the Model D  Apparently that's not the reason. Orders for the synthesizer quickly outpaced our initial estimates, leading to the addition of a night-shift to meet demand for the iconic instrument. Our parts-in...

It was up earlier today, and indeed with the $299 price tag.

One of these *cough* "accidental leaks", I suppose. And, hey - they were successful: We're discussing it now ;).

Re: going off beat

im supposed to pull this clock out my arse or what? No reason to get rude  . Some devices do have the ability to serve as a MIDI clock master, others don't, and there are even special standalone MIDI clocks such as the e-rm Midiclock (which I use). is it installed in my drum machine? I'm sure...

Re: How old is "Vintage"?

it just came to my mind that one particular instrument shows how difficult it is to define 'vintage'. I'm speaking, of course, about the Model D a.k.a. Minimoog. I think most people would agree a 1974 Minimoog is a "vintage" instrument since it's over 40 years old now. Now the Minimoog is in product...

Re: How old is "Vintage"?

info on additional synths currently not listed in the library? What's the year cutoff between vintage and modern/current? ... just how up to date is the website content willing to go? I don't think that is (nor should be) much of a criterion. For instance, the Arturia Minibrute was released in 2012...

Re: E-MU Sampler as a Mellotron substitute?

is this what you are referring to as the Masterbits offering? https://www.producerloops.com/download-masterbits-mello-trax.html Yes, that's exactly the one I have (bought it as a CD though). From reading the description I couldn't quite determine if this pack was samples of the tapes/frames in wav ...

Re: E-MU Sampler as a Mellotron substitute?

Do I need to get the Masterbits or Mike Pinder library? I obviously can't decide what you need ;), but I have the Masterbits(*) library, and use it with my Korg microSampler. Which btw. does an excellent job, plus the Korg is so small and light weighted that you can take it with you everywhere with...
