Re: Basic time envelope question

Basic, yes. Available in almost any introductory guide to envelopes, yes! Which parameter does the MIDI note length affect? All of them. Note length is defined as time between note-on and note-off events, for which gate time is a synonym. Note-on begins the attack phase of the envelope, progresses w...

Re: Roland D-50 - invalid sounds (noise, creaking, cracking)

So, as I have indicated multiple times, it seems like it might not be the DAC that is causing the problem. Check some other things.

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

151555359004 Just an FS1R for 5 thousand dollars absolutely disgusting! for comparison, a sane person sold theirs on eBay UK earlier this week for 'only' £575. Which is still a bit more than I would pay (I was considering making an offer) but a lot better than these absurd opportunists flooding the...

Re: So who around here is the resident FM programming expert

Well for starters I have trouble getting the mod wheel to work on some patches, and I can't seem to find out why. It's like it just doesn't want to work. I am trying to always have the mod wheel controlling the filter, but it only seems to work on a few patches, instead of all of them. Of course. C...

Purple PCBs! I’m not an expert, but that’s a new colour to me. :D Look forward to hearing how you get on. Happy 2015!

Re: Roland D-50 - invalid sounds (noise, creaking, cracking)

Probably but seems difficult. Seems easier to provide some clips for analysis, and replace capacitors/transistors ;) especially any around the DAC as they can significantly affect its output. Also, later caps and muting transistors are usually worth replacing while you have it open. The DAC itself c...

Re: polysix tuning issues

1) There is LOT of unreliable information online. Do not expect wrong info to be refuted. Trust the info that is repeated by several sources. Amen. As long as those several sources aren’t people on the internet saying ‘I heard X is true’. People will repeat anything . As you’ve found out, the ones ...

Re: Roland JX-8P Output Problem (An easy fix?)

Whoa! What did any of us ever do before search engines? :D Good news, it's an easy fix. Mine had the same thing going on. First what you should try is messing with the "H M L" output switch in the back. Sometimes it will knock whatever is causing the bad connection loose. This worked!!! Thank you so...

Re: Wavestation SR, TR Rack or FS1R

FS1R. Speaking of that, I just looked at the current prices for the FS1R :o holy smokes. Does the cost justify the sound? No, it’s a great synth but not worth anywhere near the prices some sellers are now trying to get, which are utterly insulting. Thankfully the ones at $3000 aren’t being bought, ...

Re: Custom/large case needed@ specific size—how to find a ma

Thanks. I found some similar companies closer to home. I think it’ll be a case(!) of emailing or phoning with expected dimensions and requirements, rather than getting any fancy online calculator. Well, the latter are often not accurate anyway, so I guess it’s for the best. :) I’ll just tell them ho...

Re: Roland D-50 - invalid sounds (noise, creaking, cracking)

Is this “chaos” a form of harmonic distortion, random white noise, or something else? i.e. does it appear to be at all related to the main pitch of the intended sound? What are 23 and 25’s functions? (I do not have the service manual at hand right now.) Possibly the DAC is at fault, although more li...

Post some recordings.

Something obvious you did not mention: Check the digital connections between all the synth, reverb, and DAC chips.

Custom/large case needed@ specific size—how to find a match?

Is there any site out there that lets us type in needed dimensions and provides a list of matching hard/flight cases to buy? or someone who builds a large variety of sizes in stock (or on-demand if not too expensive) for a somewhat affordable price? Considering a large new acquisition but would abso...

What is an example of a synth that typifies your expectation of PWM, and how does this differ from that produced by the JX-3P?
