Re: Any recommendations for 100v to 110v converter

Only extremely sensitive gear will be worried about a difference of that magnitutde. Tolerances are usually at least +/- 10% by regulation. That said, I accept no responsibility if your gear is extremely sensitive, yadda yadda.

Re: Mainstage and Yamaha DX7

FM7/8 load the presets, but they don't sound "exact". Envelopes especially are not very precisely emulated. Other things are a bit different too. Close enough in a pinch, but FM7/8 are a tribute, rather than an emulation.

Re: Yamaha RMX 1 as sequencer / midi controller

RM1x, and of course it's possible, since it was designed specifically to be a sequencer... It has MIDI Out, and the Bass Station has MIDI In. Do you have a cable? The manuals are available from the official sites, in addition to other places.

Re: JX-3P VS Polysix

"Synthesizing" PWM with sync works perfectly fine, and as long as you get the ranges right sounds exactly the same. You can do this on any synth without PWM but with minimum 2 oscs and sync. Thank you! Anyone else can present a reasoned rebuttal of what we've said if they want, though I won't hold ...

Re: JX-3P VS Polysix

People are free to try it for themselves and compare it to their expectations, although it’s not like the latter impose any mandate upon synth designers. None of this excuses the constant claims that PWM is outright absent, I would say.

Re: JX-3P VS Polysix

I haven't spent any time comparing it to whatever you might class as 'traditional' PWM(?), but it meets the dictionary definition. :)

Re: How to sync Roland Tr 606 with Korg Volca Sample???

Hi, The 606 has a socket on the back that looks like midi No, it's not MIDI. Google DIN sync . These Rolands came out before MIDI was a ubiquitous thing. On the Volca there is a port marked midi in but I don't think this is for sync as next to it is 2 mini jack ports marked sync in and sync out . Al...

Re: JX-3P VS Polysix

Something I see everywhere and by which I am completely baffled: Why does everyone say the JX series lack PWM? Their manuals have like an third of a page dedicated to explaining how this can totally be achieved using sync. Oh, right: everyone just repeats what they've heard, rather than actually rea...

Great to hear the story! And I can't wait to hear the sounds, once I get a drive to write them from my PC. :D
chances were they were already Yamaha owners and used to the obtuse user interface
Yeah, that's me. ;)

Re: DX7 IIFD issues

Need to check solder joints etc too. Garbled characters would tend to indicate some sort of digital glitch, perhaps one or more dropped bits, which could occur for various physical reasons. Also check the schematic for any sundry buffers, etc that might be between the CPU and the LCD, as if present,...

Re: Reduce white noise in output signals? (synth op-amp circ

OK, thanks, but I assume they are fine as they have all been replaced with modern equivalents. Also, I previously had a second unit that had the same noise levels (within about 0.4 dB), so that probably indicates a more general problem elsewhere?

Re: Minimoog has no keyboard

I wish almost all of my keyboards had already been racked! Once I had one or two proper keybeds of different types, there would be no reason to get extra keys in my opinion. But when they aren’t available in rack form, I have to… ;) Currently I have all synth-action keybeds of a couple of types, and...

Re: DX7 IIFD issues

Simplest thing is to check the cable connecting the LCD to the mainboard. but i can use all the buttons etc. the synth also rememberts last program i've been using. so you mean it is responsive, and the segmented LED numbers change, but just not the main screen? Absence of sound might just be a sett...

Re: Reduce white noise in output signals? (synth op-amp circ

Thanks both. Got an oscilloscope? Sadly not. Much needed, though. If multiple sources are being summed, check each source individually for noise levels. I can do this through the separate pre-sum outputs. They are not ideal noise-wise but obviously much less so. The problem then is that I have to su...

Re: E-Mu Proteus/1 Orchestral Plus with Logic Pro 9??!!!

Well, in this case, you need to play from the piano-roll, as there is no MIDI to record from the Proteus; the audio induced by the MIDI output must then be monitored/recorded through your speakers/DAW. You cannot “write” sounds from the E-Mu into your DAW’s MIDI track as such: you can only play that...
