Why wait? Throw to your heart's content, just don't expect a card back yet

Seriously, I'm glad you guys are still there. It's all taking its sweet time, but it will happen. Probably even before Christmas this year ;)

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

JD800 and TR626 - no issues so far. \o/ Thanks for testing and also thanks for the photos! Happy the card arrived safely and works well for you :) In other news, I met with baz99 today to figure out and measure the problems the JV series are having with the RevC cards. We had a nice play around wit...

Re: Call for beta testers

Hello there! I would definitely like to be a tester as I have a Roland D-10. :) Hey, thanks for volunteering! =) Something came up with Joe50000's card that I have to investigate and I'll need the leftover card for that. But you're on the list =) Joe has problems formatting the RevC card in his JV ...

Congratulations, you got the job ;) I'll PM you about details.

One or two cards left, any takers? ;)

Call for beta testers

So. All RevC cards are built and tested now. I hope I'll never have to solder one of these by hand again  I have a few cards (two or three depending on tester responses) that I haven't assigned to anyone yet, so if you'd like to get your hands on a coveted prototype for less than the final sel...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Interesting card - I was wondering if this could be used to make sample cards as well, I designed one for the Yamaha RX5: https://www.retrokits.com/rk001.jpg Nice card, and nice case =) Check this page and the previous one -- we just discussed using the card as sample cards. Main problem is the lac...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Short update: Six of eight RevC cards have been built (new soldering station! yay! \o/) Zaichornok received a RevC card already (to verify the new design fixes the issues in his GC-8); probably testing as I type Three more cards are on their way to beta testers, two further testing inquiries have go...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

To re-iterate the first post: This one's an actual beta tester that's having problems reaching me ;) Valentine, I got your PM now, and sent you my email address in response. I'll shove a few PMs into the queue after it; maybe that'll get the pipes unclogged ;) You could PM me your email too to make...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Molex has some 170 pos .75mm pitch connectors. Quite expensive for a try (2 wires for 1 pin hack maybe?) Hmm, you mean like http://www.digikey.de/product-detail/en/amphenol-fci/10058835-1000LF/609-3133-ND/1855737 ? You might be onto something there =) The half pin pitch will make plugging an advent...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Still, I couldn't find any edge card connector with 1.5mm pitch... I'm a noob in electronics anyway and only searched the web for a 34 pos. connector... Maybe there are connectors with more positions and 1.5mm pitch that could be used, but didn't find any on the web (hard to find the right words to...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I don't know anything about the U220, but at least on the JV-1080 the PCM card slot is physically different than the Data card slot, it's much shorter and the connector pins are narrower and much closer together. Also the JV-1080 PCM card slot can take PCM cards up to 2MByte (the SM shows 21 addres...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Edit: U-220 card bus is a bit wider: 19 bits address bus, hence 512KB ROM cards, but other 34 pins seem compatible with the card port you found on a D-20.. You can check it in the service manual, page 7 for the U-220 ( http://www.synfo.nl/pages/servicemanuals.html ) Wow, 19 bits -- they're re-using...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I've been thinking about making a USB reader/writer for these memory cards; as madtheory pointed out, my test jig can already do that. The real show stopper is the unavailability of matching card slots. If anyone can point me to a reliable source of inexpensive 34-pin card edge slots with 1.5mm pin ...
