Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

So, schematics is OK, other pictures are with mistakes. Yeah, lots of half-assery on that page unfortunately -- but at least the pinout was accurate ;) The original card dimensions I got from rolandmuseum.de, and jojo helped me measure the contacts once I realized that the info on that page could i...

Trust me, once this gets out of beta phase, I have zero intention of soldering a single joint myself ;) I'm going to go with a professional assembly house -- costs money but saves nerves :D

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

My Rev. B does not wiggle at all, it sits rock solid when inserted in the slot, presumably this was a problem in a different synth, not the JV-1080? I've had reports of this for Zaichornok's GC-8 and madtheory's Akai keyboard, if I remember correctly. Just a smidgen, but enough to bother me. I actu...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I'll just leave this here: http://dojoe.net/images/mr-revc.jpg My test jig is currently at madtheory's place, so I can't test the functionality, but electrically the two cards I built seem fine. I'll probably have eight cards to hand out this time; I'll build them over the next weeks. I made one mor...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

So. I got antsy, assumed that madtheory wouldn't find any more issues, and ordered six Rev.C boards :D They should arrive in four to six weeks -- I'll keep you posted.

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

It's a credit to the design that you were able to solve this problem so simply. Thanks, I wish I could say it had been designed for this from the start ;) Congratulations guys on getting around the problem! Thank you! A lot of credit should go to YouTubers Dave Jones a.k.a. EEVBlog and Shahrirar Sh...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

HA! madtheory and I report BLAZING SUCCESS! So the next step is to hook up a logic analyser to see what the keyboard writes. There are 40 connections to be made with crocodile clips. :) We'll do this in the coming week, stay tuned. Turns out all we needed was a multimeter  Something i...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Do you have any idea of availability date? As this is a hobby side project with external dependencies like beta testers on top, I can't give you any date; only a promise that it will be available some day. Hopefully this year as it's been dragging on for too long as it is ;) and how would it be pos...

Make that one beta tester -- I got word from bassman4d521 that the card is basically working in his VG-8. He didn't put it through extensive use yet as his time is very limited right now, but these are still very good news.

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Hey, things have been slow these previous months, so I think you guys deserve an update even though there's no breakthrough to report: I am still waiting for test reports from two beta testers who appear to have dropped off the face of the earth. Still hoping that's just a technical problem -- my em...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Interesting, now I wonder what's the difference between your and baz99's JV-1080, since he didn't seem to have any slot issues with the rev.B card? baz99 did have slot issues, though not as badly as aladan; he got the card out again. The JV-1080 slots seem to warp with age, and now either aladan's ...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

as far as I know testing has shown that the cards are also not fully compatible to Akai synths at the moment, and whether that can be solved or not remains yet to be seen. What ʝɵʝɵ said. Also I'm not dead yet ;) I'm working with madtheory to understand the problems he's having in his Akai. Akai su...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Just to throw an idea at you: What about a (mini) crowdfunding approach? Raise the money for a 25 or 50 piece pre-production run, funders get first delivery and the understanding things may not work 100% (semi-beta). You'd have less risk and more progress. I don't think that is quite correct. I wou...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Any idea when the final version(s) will be available for sale? Weeks? Certainly not. Months? Unlikely. I still have to go through a second round of prototypes and beta testing thereof. I have to design the changes into the card first, and I need to figure out how to do a small production run. This ...
