Re: Oberheim DMX: replacing battery, cleaning switches

I realize this thread is old, but did the OP find out which type of battery to replace it with? I know it's a 3.6V NiCd battery, but not how many mA. (I need to replace my DMX battery as well and the current one (which no longer works) is of a different size/type). UPDATE : I've been told it's aroun...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

UPDATE: I haven't had much time lately to complete this project but I got an idea (about how to mount the new display securely).... For the right side of the display I think Robber1956's solution shown in his second photo should work.I'm going to try to get some thin scrap metal to put behind the ex...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

Please explain what you mean by the display being clamped to the D-110. Yes, double-sided tape could be an option for softening the mounting between the front panel and the display (there's some orange soft sticky stuff on mine which is falling apart), but I wouldn't rely on it being the only way to...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

As you can see in one of my pictures I used a 'L' shaped aluminium profile 2 x 3 cm. Your pictures are in this post, right ? I had some problems with the image sizes when quoting that posting, so I've just pasted those 3 below instead: http://i64.tinypic.com/33tk0hz.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/ds753...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

I finally got the time to properly make a new cable and attach it to the new display, and it works perfectly! When completely done mounting it I'll post a summary for new readers (so they don't have to read through all my mistakes first  ). The new display I bought has a beautiful green backlig...

Re: Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.

Too true my neighbouring countryman ;) Did you give in and buy those CDs? The two CDs (it says "currently available for the "Beverly Hills cop I" CD, but awaiting new stock in January....!!?!??) would cost US$ 16.56 in shipping alone, totalling US$ 56.46 and with import duties it would grand total a...

Re: Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.

You're welcome, logix Yes I got them directly from La-La land records. At US$ 56.50, it wasn't cheap but well worth the money. Plus perhaps even import duties :o That's the soundtrack scores CDs for "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Beverly Hills Cop II", right? There's no released full score for "Fletch", ...

Re: Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.

Thanks for all that info, Micke!
I've been looking into buying the La-La land "Beverly Hills cop" and "Beverly Hills cop 2" film score soundtracks too -did you get them directly from La-La land or somewhere else? Shipping costs, import duties etc. on top of the CD costs makes it pretty expensive.

(preliminary) SUCCESS!! http://i68.tinypic.com/11qojn8.jpg Well done! Congrats =D> Now if you connect the new display with all lines visible exatctly the same you're there. Thanks! :D Yes, I'm just going to finalize the testing of the contrast etc. and I'm ready to put in the new, undamaged d...

Re: Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.

The syncl lead on FLETCH was indeed the JX-8P. Not totally sure about the main bass synth but if I recall correctly it's a DX-7, at least the powerful one that kicks in at 1:06. The pads are from the JP-8. That's truly awesome! A DX-7? Really? I've got one and know I've only touched the surface of ...

Re: Synths used on 'Fletch'

Forat electronics did (still does?) several Linndrum modifications including: adding MIDI,separate tuning for certain sounds, tuning for non-tuneable sounds, replacement sounds (EPROMs), DINsync and so on. Here's another MIDI upgrade which is cheaper than the above, from Dtronics . There are probabl...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

(preliminary) SUCCESS!! http://i68.tinypic.com/11qojn8.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/11kbej8.jpg Aside from the bad contact (after disassembling my first 1602xxx-2.1) I can definitely read something there now, so I think the replacement display will work as intended with the new replacement. Re: Synths used on Bar Kays songs

Their track "Holy Ghost" is a master piece. They used it in "Pump up the volume" I agree :D That awesome "bass drone" sound which I'm guessing is a Minimoog and is clearly heard of "Pump up the volume" by MARRS as you already mentioned is really funky! I had a Minimoog a while back, but although an...

Back to the subject again: DX-7 Tubular bells can be heard on "Rock & roll me again" by The System

As for Harold Faltermeyer, I've just created a new thread here if anyone would like to continue to discuss his music, gear etc.

Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.)

Harold Faltermeyer is a long time 80's synth favourite of mine (along with Paul Hardcastle) who made a lot of funky synth instrumentals (but also backing tracks for songs with vocals). For those not familiar with his name, I'm sure the instrumental "Axel-F" (from the 1984 movie " Beverly Hills Cop ...
