device asks for 260ma, my psu has 200ma, works, ok?

Hi everyone, Title sums it up. The psu is 60ma shy of what the device asks for but the device appears to run just fine. it's a Roland GI-10 MIDI Guitar converter. My only worry would be that this might be damaging the actual device. it's a 9v DC with negative center.. the negative center is annoying...

Best guitar synth/interface for Roland GK2/2a pickup?

Hi everyone, I know this is a bit more of a guitar question, but it's still vintage MIDI related and I know many people here do more than just play synth keyboards. So I had a GR-50 for years as a sound module and midi guitar converter.. but I sold it off leaving me with two guitars with GK2 and GK2...

Re: using 2032 batteries instead of a barrel styled battery?

i just hate how violent an ending these things have.. ugh.. my PolySix back in 1995 was the first experience I had with this back then.. RIP.. of course back then i let the technician convince me the repairs were not worth it.. so young and foolish then..

Re: using 2032 batteries instead of a barrel styled battery?

ok i spoke too quickly.. anyone know which side is positive? the 2 pin or 1 pin side? the battery i have is corroded so there is no real clear indication of which side is positive. additionally since the battery is dead i can't determine positive / neg through the flow of voltage. I THINK the two pi...

Re: using 2032 batteries instead of a barrel styled battery?

absolutely right. sorry i should have been more explicit. ooooo ok.. good to know.. the board is still mounted so i couldn't see under it.. was hoping to not have to remove the board for this since it's a lot of opportunity to do other damage in the process. ok awesome. yea i think (just from observ...

Re: using 2032 batteries instead of a barrel styled battery?

bump / the other reason I'd like to not do that is because those barrel batteries cost $10-15 a pop and I have 2032 holders and batteries right here.. maybe i can ignore one of the pins or need to split the one end (forget offhand if the two pin side is the positive or negative).. then again the bat...

using 2032 batteries instead of a barrel styled battery?

Hi everyone, So I got my hands on an old Peavey Addverb that works well, but not surprisingly the battery is bad.. I would like to replace it, but really don't want to put another acid bomb in this thing.. I wondered if i might be able to use alternate batteries? I know the answer should be yes, but...

Re: JV1080 sound problem - help appreciated!

yea when troubleshooting it's best to absolutely strip down a unit to it's most basic form. make sure the backup battery is good as well. This also lets you open up the hood and see if there are any signs of damage / corrosion somewhere.. also i'm not sure if these devices ever had firmware updates,...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

this is pretty serious.. so i just got my hands on a zoom 9030 off ebay that was said is good.. but when i got it, i saw it wasn't.. thankfully the seller was honorable and refunded the money for it, but yep.. capacitor leaked all over the dsp board and sure enough the liquid in one of the capacitor...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

Cool that's great to know. Thank you for confirming. I'm having a specialist guy service both of my Amiga 1200's in the near future but this is really because I just want someone who really knows these things to look them over. If only transformers were not so damn picky! Would be so nice to be able...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

so to those out there though with some good experience replacing parts, are capacitors something that are really proprietary or easily replaceable like other things like resistors? I'm not going to do this for ever piece of gear I own but some of my favorites I'd like to do what i can within reason ...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

gotcha yea i can understand having to rewire logic and such.. that could get hair fast. i'm only talking about straight up caps on a motherboard that are easy to see and access.

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

well i mean if a capacitor is rated for a certain level.. certain type. wouldn't they be universal or were capacitors of the 80's different then today? in my (somewhat ignorant) mind, would imagine a cap would have a value on it. it would be removed / replaced with a cap of the same rating and all s...
