Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

gotcha, yea that would be bad. Do you think someone who's a general electronic repair person would be competent enough to take a piece of music gear and do a service like this? I figure capacitors are much like resistors and other devices that have a common language. There is a local TV repair guy w...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

I guess my question is if these cap problems are destructive or more of a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" in most cases and of course if there are known exceptions to this it would be great to know. now experience would tell me of course fixing it before it becomes a problem is always preferable bu...

Re: Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging sampl

I know a person here in the US that does the service and I'm going to get both treated in August when he's back in the states. I mean I guess I don't know for sure that every sampler / most samplers or h**l even any sampler even use capacitors but caps seem to be pretty common components in electron...

Should we all be worried about capacitors in aging samplers?

Hi there, So I have two Amiga 1200's (one as a backup) and I've known for a little while that bad capacitors are a thing that are pretty inevitable, but i kinda figured it wouldn't hurt.. just use it till they become a problem and get them fixed.. naturally I know it would generally be better to fix...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

well there you have it. All played live and performed. That's pretty amazing. That's watermark. I'm still wondering about that one "ah" in Caribbean Blue i link above, which is from Shepard Moons. Clearly though they were on to something with watermark so I'm sure they didn't opt to start sequencing...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

yea i'm still sticking to my guns though that they could have used vocal samples lightly.. that "ah" in Caribbean blue.. listen.. i cued it up.. https://youtu.be/GnIo73NXo_A?list=RDGnIo73NXo_A&t=24 i'm sure that 99% of the stuff is live / layered vocals. However, snippets like that sound so syntheti...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

found this thread too digging deeper with the Kurzweil 250 tip.. http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/1224119/Enya Enya's synthesizers include the Roland D-50 (she likes the "heavy feel," optimum for playing sampled tympani and strings), the Fairlight III, the Yamaha TX (the rack vers...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

yea i agree it probably wasn't but i don't know it just makes sense from a songwriting perspective.. even if it were just demo ideas and such.. how much faster it would be to make harmonies.. especially when it's one person's voice doing ALL the voices. multitracking / playback / layering to me woul...

Re: Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

yea i guess that would help the sound be richer. having each voice be performed vs sampled, but i still can't help but feel like some sampling was employed. maybe just small parts here and there.. like this: https://youtu.be/GnIo73NXo_A?t=18 at the end (0:25) of that part you can hear this "ah..." a...

Did Enya ever use samplers for her voice?

Hi everyone, I recently came to a realization that I've always kinda thought enya would sample her voice for some of the choir type sounds. They really do have a very ADSR feel to them. I realize she could probably do it live but for songwriting i could see it being so much more expedient to sample ...

Re: 1982's Strange Vintage Arpeggiator on Roland EP 6060

interesting synth. never seen that one before. also what is interesting is the built in EQ. i've recently been wondering why virtually all (now excluding this one) lack any kind of EQ.. i mean sure filters are a kind of EQ but an EQ on top of a filter could still result in some significant changes t...

Re: Roland Juno 106 - no sound, unresponsive.

you really should take it to a professional in your area. i don't think an issue like this has a simple obvious fix but you may also be surprised to learn that whatever the problem is, might be singular and once found everything works again.. so while it may take some money to bring it back, it can ...

Re: Disabling Fan for SCSI enclosure for SD SCSI card bad id

yea i checked with the seller of the product and he claims these devices put out virtually no heat themselves and i imagine that the transformer in the old enclosure (probably from the 90's) is generating any more heat than any normal transformer in unfanned gear (like my peavey sp sampler) and ther...

Disabling Fan for SD/SCSI card bad idea? (resolved)

Hi there, So I have recently invested in a 4gb SCSI to SD Card adapter. It's great. I love it. It replaced my whinny SCSI HD in the same Enclosure.. but now that noise is gone, there is another noise.. The fan... it's not horrible but it's definitely very audible... so yea i guess horrible in a stud...
