DIY repairs and grounding.

Hi all A basic question here... where/how is the best way to ground yourself when doing DIY repairs so that you don't accidentally zap fragile electronic components in your synth? I've probably been doing it wrong all of these years but I used to attach my wrist strap to a section of water pipe that...

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

Thank you both for your inputs on removing the chips. Tekhed66, I'm afraid the K2000 PRAM option is physically very different from the K2500's PRAM2 option. Ahhhh ... yes I remember reading about that when I ordered my PRAM board ... mine was definitely for the K2000 so there may be a fault in the ...

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

In the meantime I've received those updated chips - I managed to install 340CTLV9 but those PLCCs are so damn hard to remove even with a chip puller that I didn't manage to install the SMCTLV8 yet. I don't want to damage the synth so I have to think of a clever solution for swapping out the chip. D...

Re: Wanna sell my Jupiter 8

Haven't been on here in years. Had to register all over again. Gonna get straight to the point: I want to sell my JP8. It needs a new battery but otherwise it's in great shape, both physically and operationally. Question is, should I replace the battery before selling it or sell it as is? The guy I...

New spam attack???

Hi all Does anyone know what's happening regarding these comments that keep cropping up in The Listening Lounge along the lines of complimenting the track "I Believe In America" (which I posted ages ago) and then having links to some essay writing website... All of the posts are first and only posts...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

Ok... my turn: 1) The synth that made you want to play music : I'd been playing a bit of piano and accordion since I was a little kid and way before I really knew what a synth was... Any songs on the radio (hello 1970's !!!) that had an interesting keyboard hook always got my attention and I'd try t...

Re: Roland MKS50 problem

I have an MKS-50 too. Mine wasn't receiving midi either, had a minor meltdown over it. Kicked over the trash can, threw some cables at the wall, accosted an inanimate object or two..Turned out it was just on the wrong midi channel. I couldn't get the audio of my DAW to work after returning t...

K2000 - Internal SCSI drive problem

Hi all I recently upgraded the OS of my K2000 to 3.87 and after the surgery, I discovered that I can't access the internal scsi hard drive ... the synth recognizes that there's something there when I switch it to the corresponding scsi channel (the display gives a read out saying it's connected to a...

Re: 80's Synth Pop

Thanks, I was really going for the style. As far as the timing, I was pretty sure it was on time since I used a midi clock for the internal sequencer. Maybe I should've turned on the quantize or something. -Nathan Hi Nathan The drums and bass sequence aren't locked together so it's missing the beat...

Re: Intravenous

Thanks! I had a long "pause" making any music, because keeping busy with kid's and work. Yep... I know that feeling very well ... working for yourself and raising a family usually means something has to give. My kids are older now and I'm slowly starting to get my life back so hopefully I can final...

Re: Intravenous

Relaxing and cool! Thanks Haaplaj ... I'm glad you liked it ... the mix isn't great and I've since re-worked it but it will have to do for now. I've listened to some of your tracks on Soundcloud and I think they're fantastic ... 'Pulse and 'Legacy' are my favorites ... really nice work. How are thi...

Re: Kurzweil K2000: Original sounds or VP/VX sounds(K2500 So

As I understand, from a Brian Cowell posting elsewhere, the early K2000s shipped with a more synth oriented soundset in slots 1-199 originally. Later on, after the K2000 started being picked up mostly as a gig-workstation, the revised the 1-199 soundset to be more meat and potatoes kinds of sounds,...
