Re: Quantum String Theory..ambient.funk...I think.

Very interesting pieces ... it reminds me of a much more mellow 'Bitches Brew' in that parts of it are very abstract yet it all ticks along nicely. How did you record your guitars???? Did you DI them or mic up the amps ... the reason i ask is that I have written quite a few guitar tracks but have ne...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

Be aware of this auction, it is a fraud. I've contacted to EBay in order to stop, but just in case: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-Jupiter-8-Analog-Synthesizer-/172405786533?hash=item28242f87a5:g:QRIAAOSw44BYJg~N http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-TR-909-Rhythm-Composer-Analog-Drum-Machine-MINT-/172405...

Re: Choosing a DAW

Ableton Live doesn't support sysex ... a major bummer for what is otherwise a superb DAW... There are meant to be various workarounds using Max4Live but I haven't tried them (I've just believed the rumours and hearsay... ;) ) The best thing about Live is the non-linear way you can compose ... workin...

Re: Need help with vintage synths please!

Funnily enough, I was having almost the exact conversation with my 16 yr old the other day... He recently bought a Novation Launchpad and kept himself mindlessly occupied by loading/triggering the free downloadable loops which was all very nice but bloody annoying at the same time. Anyway, I offered...

Re: Your lifelong equipment list

[...] Don't get me started on my guitars and pedals.... or the STUFF I WANT!!!!!!! [/quote]Interestingly, my want list is fairly short -- most of the stuff I wanted for ages has become incredibly expensive or unobtainium or both so... why bother chasing dreams? Or phantoms, for that matter.[...

Re: Yamaha DX-7

No, the LMGTFY post was right on IMO. The OP needs to learn how to learn. Basic research skills. Why? Well otherwise information decays into hearsay a.k.a. c**p people say on forums. With that in mind, I seriously doubt that VSE will become the only repository for info about one of the best selling...

The Lonesome Boatman - new track and first collaboration

This is my first collaboration ... it's a track my very talented Irish friend Oisin introduced me to called 'The Lonesome Boatman'. Oisin plays the acoustic guitar and the wonderful low whistle and I do all of the synths and programming... a clash of old meets new. We hope you enjoy listening to it....

Re: Synth you'd buy again if...

My old band sort of fell to bits many, many years ago and just before I got married.... We were all sick of each other and I was so over bands and playing that I decided to sell everything... besides, we were just starting out and broke so the money would be handy just before the wedding... I sold m...

Re: MESS: Synth wonderland

I guess it's lovely..if you happen to live in Australia. More correct is to say it's lovely if you live in Melbourne ... I live in Perth which is the capital city on the west coast ... the distance from Perth to Melbourne (which is on the east coast) is like saying you live in London and the synths...

Re: Roland JX3P troubleshoot should I return this?

If you're feeling brave, you could open it up and service the fader properly... the fact that values reset to zero (with a bit of force) suggests either a dirty or damaged fader... blowing air into it won't do very much. The easiest thing to do would be to spray a cleaner into the fader such as Deox...

Re: Akai s5000 - Replacing floppy with int JAZ drive

Hi Ninja It's pretty easy to do... I assume a scsi or scsi/ide drive would work exactly the same. Here's what to do: 1. unplug the sampler from the power and open her up!! 2. trace the power lines coming out of the floppy drive back to the circuit board. There are 2 wires - red and black and they'll...

Re: Akai s5000 - Replacing floppy with int JAZ drive

I worked out the wiring and how to swap over the drives... my s5000 now has an internal Jaz drive all all is good...

I might eventually swap out the Jaz for a scsi HD but this will do for now .. it's a huge improvement over the floppy drive.

cheers ;)

Re: Akai s5000 - Replacing floppy with int JAZ drive

I think I found the power supply ... there are 4 exposed pins on the power board ... smaller than a molex connector but they must be the power source. If they are... can anyone please tell me the correct wiring order i.e which pin on the power board connects to which pin on the Jaz molex connector? ...
