Re: Yamaha SY35 Equivalent

Ebay, reverb, guitarcenterused. They pop up quite often & pretty cheap. Love mine. Has a great edge to it. There is one on Reverb.com I bought mine in Seattle, last year. It was listed at $299 in great condition w/ manual. I offered $250 & took it home. I've seen them sell for a lot less. Shipping a...

Re: Advice on monitors?

Many of us have a less than ideal space. Read reviews, buy what you can afford. Don't go crazy if you don't have an ideal room or don't want to spend the money to make it ideal. I have older monitors that work fine. They aren't ideal, nothing will be, in my room. I get a mix going, check in in my he...

Re: Anyone else tired of the Analog revolution?

Yeah, maybe it's the whole "Look at my ten modules that do almost nothing" movement that really is driving into me. I really like any keyboard that does something interesting, & has a good amount creative versatility, be it analog or digital.

Anyone else tired of the Analog revolution?

How long does it take before everyone has a blue, a red, a green, a yellow & a rainbow colored analog synth? Don't get me wrong, I think they can produce some really amazing sounds but, seems like everyone is building 10 of them. One something for every price range & visual pallet. Anyone else longi...

Re: Need advice on sampler purchase

I'd look for something with at least 32mb of storage. That way you can lay a bunch of samples across the keyboard & not have to worry too much about memory. YOu'll also want the ability to hook up a decent hard drive, for storage. Facebook has both Akai & E-mu sampler groups...for more info. On the ...

Re: New to the forums. Advice appreciated :)

You wanna sound like NIN? Get an old sampler like the Ensoniq Eps, or ESQ1, or an Emax. If you don't want to mess with floppy disks, just get a basic VA from the late 90s/early 00's. Roland JP8000, Korg R3, Ms2000, V-Synth, King Korg. Best way to sound like NIN? Find your own sound with production ...

Re: New to the forums. Advice appreciated :)

Hopefully you live near a good store that may carry a decent selection of synths. My advice to anyone is to not follow the current trend, just because its exciting. Put your hands on some machines. Listen to youtube videos of different synths(with headphones). Personally I'd love to have a Sub 37 or...

Re: Akai S5000-Worth Trying to Fix?

Open it up. See if anything looks amiss. That should give you an idea of where it's gone wrong. If you were smelling something, you should be able to find what popped. Getting a machine looked at can be expensive, these days. I've had quotes for $100 just to open one up. Then you have to have it fix...

Re: Newbie with question

Why analog? Don't get me wrong, there are some great analog synths out there. But, the craze is sometimes just that. Why not start with something that can do a lot more for you? An older sampler workstation with synth capabilities can really do a lot for you. Of you are spending $2k on an analog syn...

Re: SY77

Yamaha made some nice synths, with some great edge. I picked up an SY35. I love tweaking it to see where it will go. I've pulled a few great sounds from it that I've been using in my current writing.

Rasputin does have a point, though...

Re: Ensoniq ASR10 (keyb)no SCSI or EPS16+ rack with SCSI

I've not had that issue. I guess I haven't sequenced extensively with the EPS16. I usually sequence form the ASR. You could pick up an SQ1. They are pretty low cost. Very similar sequencing. You could use SQ1 as your controller. It has some really nice sounds, as well. Then you could sample out as m...

Re: Ensoniq ASR10 (keyb)no SCSI or EPS16+ rack with SCSI

Yeah, I was sampling into the EPS16 the other day. Having to sample, edit all of the fat off, sample again and repeat. Eventually I had to finish the job in the ASR, then dump back into the EPS where I needed to use it. It can get frustrating that such a powerful machine has such limited memory, eve...
