Re: SY77

Yamaha made some nice synths, with some great edge. I picked up an SY35. I love tweaking it to see where it will go. I've pulled a few great sounds from it that I've been using in my current writing.

Rasputin does have a point, though...

Re: Ensoniq ASR10 (keyb)no SCSI or EPS16+ rack with SCSI

I've not had that issue. I guess I haven't sequenced extensively with the EPS16. I usually sequence form the ASR. You could pick up an SQ1. They are pretty low cost. Very similar sequencing. You could use SQ1 as your controller. It has some really nice sounds, as well. Then you could sample out as m...

Re: Ensoniq ASR10 (keyb)no SCSI or EPS16+ rack with SCSI

Yeah, I was sampling into the EPS16 the other day. Having to sample, edit all of the fat off, sample again and repeat. Eventually I had to finish the job in the ASR, then dump back into the EPS where I needed to use it. It can get frustrating that such a powerful machine has such limited memory, eve...

Re: the 8-out expander for ensoniq eps classic, worth it?

If you're patient, they show up pretty cheap from time to time, locally. Is it worth it? If you need extra outputs, sure. I haven't taken the plunge, mostly because of a couple reasons. #1 the machine really doesn't have enough memory for me to really use it in that capacity. It's my favorite sample...

Re: Overrated

Even the Bottom of the Barrel synths with a decent sound are starting to climb. I was watching Ensoniq SQ racks, just to have one at my disposal w/o pulling out the keyboard. one week they were going for $80-120. The next week $250-300+ Its funny how these things just spike, all of a sudden.

Re: Your latest musical purchase

Just picked up an SY35 in working order. I'm learning my through basic editing & have sampled off of it, already. It has a really crisp sound. Cant wait to dig in deeper. Great unit, for the price these things are going for.

Re: Choosing my first synth on a budget.

CS1x is a great budget choice. put some headphones on & work through some videos on you tube. Find something that speaks to you. Ensoniq SQ1 is a great board. Kawai, Yamaha also made some nice stuff in the 90's

Re: Mirage sampling problems.

An EPS can be had for about the same price. & they are much more user friendly. Both machines have a distinct sound to them.

Southcenter (GuitarCenter), in Seattle supposedly has one. Looks like a cool piece. I'd love to play around on one!

You should be able to find something. There's an E-MU Sampler Facebook page.

Re: Ensoniq vfxsd issues

See if you can find a copy of the service manual. The ensoniq samplers often have problems that source back to the keyboard assembly. In any case, the service manual is a good place to start.
