Re: JX3P just plays single repeating tone and some of the buttons change it?
It's predictably like this between power cycles. 14 and 16 are interesting because the 0 light blinks as well in time with the front panel LEDs. The rate of blinking on the pulse light seems to vary. It occurred to me that measuring the output side of IC46 isn't going to work well because you're es...

Re: JX3P just plays single repeating tone and some of the buttons change it?
I love how relatively simple these machines are, almost crudely simple compared to a modern computer, to the point that I feel like I could actually understand what it's doing. All the input pins are constantly high. 11-18 output pins are high with some blinking between 0 and 1. 20 is high. 19 is n...

Re: JX3P just plays single repeating tone and some of the buttons change it?
Some of the pins on the other side of IC46 stay on 1 but go to 0 for a fraction of a second before each iteration of the repeating sound (if that makes sense). To begin to answer that, it might be helpful to look at some theory of operation. Snooze... :D THEORY OF OPERATION What is IC46 and why sho...

Re: JX3P just plays single repeating tone and some of the buttons change it?
I guess that eliminates the front panel from causing the issue? Unless it requires a certain signal from the front panel board to disengage the test mode? Not so much a signal from the panel board to disengage test mode, but more that the mainboard sees buttons 1-6 and 9 (either individually or any...

Re: Korg Trident MK1 capacitor 4700 uf 25v
HI. Where can i buy 470 uf 25v -40 85c S capacitor to Korg Trident MK1 Anywhere that sells electronics supplies, really. Digikey, Mouser, Arrow, Radio Shack , whatever... I don't know if you meant 4700 uF or 470 uF, but if you intended 4700uf then Nichicon UHE1E472MHD would probably be a part ...

Re: JX3P just plays single repeating tone and some of the buttons change it?
Spitballin' here, so this could be wildly inaccurate, but it's something to think about at least. One of the seven JX3P tone select buttons is stuck on, either physically/mechanically or electrically. This would force the JX3P into test mode at every power on event. It may be possible to disengage t...

Re: JX-8P getting stuck on "Roland JX-8P 12"
I suspect a possible crack on a solder joint since moving it fixes the issue, but I do not see anything on the board. Any suggestions? When it's in a state of failure, use a plastic spudger, chopstick, or other pointed device which is not conductive and probe around until it (hopefully) comes back ...

Re: JX8P button issues
While I was putting the board back into it, the back side made contact with one of the brass standoffs and sparked. I'm not sure what part of this repair or reassembly required working on it while powered on, but... :-? I would probably start by checking the switch matrix driver (IC4 - TC40H245P) o...

Re: Yamaha dx100 blank display
I don't know where to find it. I'm pretty sure these jacks will fit most Yamaha mono jacks (output, footswitch) of the era, like the DX, RX and TG series. I can't guarantee it, but I know they are 3-pin PCB mount, and if your original jack has that "black front with red rear" color scheme then they...

Re: Yamaha dx100 blank display
But now, about that output cutting off issue... If you didn't notice any cold solder joints on the intermittent jack, yet the jack functions okay when fiddling with it then there are two potential problems which come to mind: 1) The metal contacts are corroded and wiggling the plug within the jack ...

Re: Yamaha dx100 blank display
Well I'll be damned you're right, if I tilt it in a well-lit room I can see the text. So what do I do now? Standard LCD character displays (yes, I know that's like saying PIN number...) use pin 3 to read voltage which determines the contrast. My guess is that the value of pin 3 is buried at 0V, and...
