Re: Photos of your set-up / studio

Ca 30% non-standard and non-stock equipment. ;) http://mt.ee/hyperspace/img_0268.jpg the extra row red LEDs on the mixing consoles indicate the noise gate status. illuminated means that it is active/closed. http://mt.ee/hyperspace/img_0270.jpg Plenty of rack space. A custom rack furniture and desk. ...

Re: Thought about synthesizers channel multiplexing

mooger. for multiplexing it clearly was very good dac which was clearly not 5USD only. ;-) You see,... that one dac output which is used after that for multiplexing 6..8 channels has to be very good, in order to get better quality than separate DACs solution and still th. It has to be with with very...

Re: D550 s/h buffer opamp replacement

Well it is similar to question like how come that the HF-VHF-UHF transmitter transistors from 1970's have so modest gain compared to the newest solutions. ;) technology, manufacturing technology used to make these, their purity of materials. With ICs it is also schematic solutions on that time which...

Re: Thought about synthesizers channel multiplexing

The list does not have to be complete as almost any big manufacturers synth before 1996 was using this trickery. I think that why they did so and such cost cutting with their flagships. Were those DACs really sooooo expensive? Well, it is quite slippery edge to to go "wanted analog sound harmonics a...

Re: D550 s/h buffer opamp replacement

Try all, Interesting to hear results. Still the most important is the high input impedance of the op-amp in these circuits. THose noise figures really matter only with circuits where the high gain is in use. So in such circuits where you have, it is close to unity gain and it really is not audible d...

Re: Did Casio damage samples with its own FZ1?

in future usage, what can be done is this -- for each power rail output to add the fuse, and after fuse a group of zener diodes. zener diode (5.6V zener for 5V power rail or something other between), and even better to set 3 of them. In case of overvoltage they shortcircuit the output this way it pr...

Re: how many versions of MOTU MIDI EXPRESS XT ?

As I have mentioned, there have been several versions of the Xpress XT. The latest one can receive system updates via USB, the older USB models can not! Irrelevant! Becouse their new/latest version does not work on old platform -- win98se. In order to use something and to have it practical, inspiri...

Thought about synthesizers channel multiplexing

I have been in thought quite for a while, which can be, I hope some new project research to complete this with schematics and ICs needed to complete solution... ;) Why so many synthesizers do not use for multichannel output multichannel DACs, but use one monophonic DAC and then do channel multiplexi...

Re: Did Casio damage samples with its own FZ1?

can you tell us what you think has happened? I had it switched on while I was doing things in my studio on the computer. I turned around and I heard the floppy drive start to whirr, like it was scanning for a floppy (none was in there) then I started to smell a horrible electronic burning smell (yo...

Re: D550 s/h buffer opamp replacement

Also when the op/amp is removed does it still make crackling noise? HOw look the power supply lines? noise free? it is no problem if you just temporarily solder the wires to the SMD areas and so, put the socket. THEN solder the capacitor between the pins 4 and 8 (the power pins). The capacitors stil...

Re: D550 s/h buffer opamp replacement

TRY! No harm done with that.

Still, FET should be replaced with FET and BJT should be BJT as the BJT has lower input impedance.

TL072 would be next retry. Then AD797 (which is a costy though).
with uA740 would be also worth to try.
NJM4580 too. Not 4570

Re: wavestation expansion PCMs.

What hardware writes M1/WS-type cards? What's the cost and platform availability of such hardware? What's the cost and availability of blank cards of the type used by the M1/WS? Is this stuff even available anymore? Many things with this retro hardware is possible when it is about the expansion car...

Re: wavestation expansion PCMs.

UPDATE: the PCM expansions readout succeeded. What hardware writes M1/WS-type cards? custom programmer SEMF jx2.1 with expanded support and modest requirement. it can among all other functions read and program 8..32bit items with data transfer rate 3MB/s with ISA bus and future model with 5..8MB/s a...
