Re: problem with Yamaha DX21

Battery backup failed perhaps ? I had this on my DX11, swapped the battery and did a system reset and its now fully functional. I took pics of what I did so although it wont be exactly the same it will give you an idea, first up I would look for details of how to do a reset, IIRC I had to turn the D...

Re: Looking for drum sounds..

Sounds a lot like an E-mu Drumulator to me, the cowbell is the giveaway to my ears anyway. It may well be a mixture of a few machines There seem to be some VST instruments based on it, I couldn't find a free one but I didnt look very hard. Or you could download a sample set and use in any sample bas...

Re: Yamaha DX7 (Mk I) Locks Up - Capacitor Issue?

I have no idea of people's skills or handiness with a soldering iron but I knew I had this image handy (from an old car fuel pump relay) so in case anybody reading doesn't know what a dry joint looks like :-

Re: Yamaha DX7 (Mk I) Locks Up - Capacitor Issue?

I would still be on the lookout for a dry joint, they can be very hard to spot so on occasion I have previously just melted everything in the PSU area, that is the area that heats up and cools down the most so is more prone to dry joints. Its better to get a magnifying glass out and inspect every jo...

Re: Is Volca Beats/Bass/Keys/FM and D-05 good?

I love my volcas (2x bass, a keys and a beats). For mucking around and having fun they are great. Ultimately after I have had my fun and got a groove going I normally end up sequencing them through midi. There is some CC control over the settings and its very easy to fit midi out so you can transfer...

Re: Wanted MC-202 10K tuning pot- or advice on alternatives

Not sure its of help but when I had to replace a difficult push button on my microbrute I glued a bit of cut up rubber on to the back so it happily sat stood away from the circuit board but could also take pressure form above.

God I miss my 202, sold it many moons ago :(

Re: Yamaha DX7 (Mk I) Locks Up - Capacitor Issue?

When you first turn it on from cold does it last a while before the first failure ? And then it fails more often when you power cycle from warm ?

If so I would initially assume a dry joint as madtheory suggested.

Re: Photos of your set-up / studio

I want minime123's racks in wallpaper form ! Heres mine, somewhat short of space so it all fits in a 2ft x 4ft space with a roland d110 and rack effects underneath. The DX-11 that you can see the back of is lifted up and played on my knees when required, my laptop sits on top of the AKAI on a home m...

Re: Synth examples, post them here.

Just thought I could contribute some korg volca content. I love these little chaps and had a bit of a mission a while back to capture the essence of the TB-303 accent on a volca bass. The volca bass is both far more and far less than the original but the lack of accent is a game-changer for decent a...

Re: Waldorf Quantum

Nice setup you have there, I had the Rocket a while back I wish I had kept that one. Also wish the Quantum had also been available as a module it would have saved me a load of space. Thanks :) Yeah, you find a way to squeeze a quantum in my setup and I will sell a kidney on ebay ! The rocket ...
