Anybody out there know exactly how this happened? Just out of curiosity I'd like to know who's idea this was and how it was pitched.
What WERE they thinking?

Re: Yamaha DX7 - replacement keybed??

I've heard that some folks like the old DX7 keybed better than the DX7II keybed. Wonder if that would be a worthwhile swap?

Re: Maybe I'm not as strange as I thought...

My minimal battery powered rig: QY100 with mp3 player audio out into QY audio in, SHS10(yes, a keytar) midi out into QY midi in, noise cancelling headsets on the QY audio out and I'm good to go. Batteries usually last the length of a long flight.

Re: first thing you do when getting a new synth.

New synth? You must now get more stuff: More tiers or a new stand more cables, midi, audio, USB, Yamaha to host (grrrr..) Oh, it has USB; USB adapters, new computer, Oh it uses memory cards... Damn my sustain pedal doesn't work with this synth... Ooops, I've run out of midi inputs... midi router My ...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

Heh, heh, heh.....
From the bass player: "I bet your keyboard can't hit a lower note than my bass"
Heh, heh, heh....
My "synth" at the time was a Hammond console. Destroyed that notion with one single drawbar.

Re: FS1R question...

Can you use the DX200 as a midi contoller for the fs1r? ?: No. Not entirely true. All knobs on the DX200 send midi cc's and the FS1r can receive them. See pg.74 of the FS1r manual about "RcvKnobCtrl" which basically allows "remote control" of the four knobs on the front of the FS which in turn can ...

Re: FS1R question...

Not nearly the same knobbage, but a much cheaper solution to FS1r knobbage is the DX200, also a nice little FM beastie unto itself.

Re: DX7IID Plus vs. DX7IIFD

I believe that the local consensus is that there was never a DX7IIFDplus as the "plus" designation appeared only on the IID that had a factory installed floppy. The good news is that it therefore should be relatively easy for any owner of a IID to install a floppy drive. The hard drive mod is anothe...

Re: DX7IID Plus vs. DX7IIFD

Great, just great! Now this has got me going again and I think it's about time for a DX7IIFD plus . It would be the natural evolution of the most patch laden synth in history to also include a hard drive. I've seen hard drive mods around but not this one specifically and there are tons of drives to ...

Re: DX7IID Plus vs. DX7IIFD

Now I remember. I think. The IID designation is where the confusion seems to start as it does NOT imply a drive. The final IIFD model DOES include the floppy drive, and the IID plus appears to be an intermediate upgrade to a floppy drive. If all that is true then there really shouldn't be a IIFD plu...

Re: DX7IID Plus vs. DX7IIFD

Yeah, yeah, this is one of my old favorite semi-answered questions. The old belief was that the plus had a "faster" floppy drive in it and no the plus label is not a sticker but is factory paint. I had one a few decades ago but didn't have anything to compare it against. The hot model back then was ...

Re: yamaha dx200 tell me about it

It is a nice sounding unit with a fair amount of flexibility and since you mentioned use in a live rig another nice feature that might interest you is the fact that almost all the knobs send out midi data.

Re: Keyboards come crashing to the floor!

I went out to see a friend's band do a night club gig and sat in front checking them out along with their keyboard player and his two tier rig. Top tier had something like a microkorg which wasn't horizontally stabilized and I watched as the uppper legs did a clockwise rotation dropping the top keyb...

Re: Rank your pitch bend / mod wheels

I guess I'll be odd man out and mention how much I like the Korg Prophecy's mod wheel or ribbon log as some call it. Funny how it's spring loaded but features a position/value hold button when it could have just been unsprung.
Very creative design IMHO.
