Re: The Responsible Synthesist

Also with an 88 you can take a cue from the Hammond console reverse key color presets on the bottom end and utiliize key switching on the bottom end of the 88 for really fast midi commands. Some of the major orchestral VST's have a feature that utilizes this for violin expressions that go far beyond...

Re: The Responsible Synthesist

Many, many, thanks to all who embrace the concept of "The Responsible Synthesist". Now, here's a new one: Psynthesists. We, as responsible synthesists should probably understand synthesizing in terms of psychacoustics since there might be psychological as well as physiological affects resulting from...

Re: The Responsible Synthesist

Understands FM synthesis and knows who Chowning, Massey, and Tomita are. If into sampling knows Nyquist. Examines AC power on location. Does not use circuits with fluorescent lighting or heavy machinery on them. Uses only rock solid stands when performing. (I've seen stands and piles collapse in liv...

The Responsible Synthesist

Perhaps this might evolve into something worthwhile, maybe turn into a sticky or even a bible of sorts, but the thought came to me while taking a job as a "multi-keyboardist" and battled with the responsibilities and lofty expectations that I came across. So, just what might a "responsible synthesis...

Re: Rarest Synths

Yes. True, if that is in fact the only difference, but it won't have the factory " plus " labeling next to the stock DX7IIFD label. Kind of ironic, a "rare" DX7 when robots stamped them out by the thousands. I have a nice DX7IIFD(that I adore) but I actually GAS for the plus . Utterly ridiculous but...

Re: Rarest Synths

There is yet one more "rare" DX7 keyboard called the DX7IIFD plus . The plus designation is almost meaningless and I believe it refers to a "faster" built in floppy drive. I actually had one many, many years ago and lost it on a bad deal. I've seen one for sale briefly, but the owner changed his min...

Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?

Technically not a synth but...Ensoniq Mirage.
FS1R next but for all the flex it really doesn't have any user interface at all.

Re: Have presets killed control once more?

For low/mid range knobbage you might want to take a look at a Yamaha AN200 or DX200. Nice knobbage outbound over midi there. As for presets, IMHO it depends upon what the preset calls up. In my case presets call up entire rig configurations, hard and soft with good knobbage to both. It can get a bit...

Re: Mono synth as Midi Contoller?

Mentioned here already but the Prophecy makes for a very nice midi controller due to it's many modifiers that transmit over midi(velocity, aftertouch, pitch bend wheel, mod wheel, and ribbon log). I forget whether or not the five knobs transmit over midi as well.

Re: What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?

OK, I'm back after being gone for awhile(really rough time). Cheapest synth so far: Yamaha shs10(keytar) for $20 Technically not a synth but: a Yamaha P120 for $245 Also not synths: two leslies for free, along with a Hammond C. Somebody asked about a time machine. How's this? (push to the near futur...

Re: The Complete DX7 by Howard Massey

I've posted about this before. Wouldn't VSE be the perfect place to keep the files available for the Massey books? I also have Massey's "The Complete DX7II" and I would be willing to help in getting it posted. Of course, legal permission comes first.

Re: In need of schematics for Yamaha SHS-10

OK. Still searching but nothing sems to come up in the way of schematics. Looks like it's time for some reverse engineering, which should be an adventure unto itself. Stay tuned.

In need of schematics for Yamaha SHS-10

First off my apologies for posting a request for info on something as lowly as this little keytar, but I'm breaking into it and I desparately need the schematics. Second apology for being away for a good while and returning with a request. I owe some folks here (not money, just favors) and I will ge...
