Basically its lots of analog post processing via re-amping, eq, compression, various analog fx, and recording to tape. So, in BOC's case its not really the source material(synth, drum machine, or sample), its what they do with what they have recorded. They do this well, but I'm pretty sure I'd stil...

Who ever says its dumb to mimic BOC's sound is stupid. As long as the composition is your own, then who cares if it sounds like BOC. The BOC sound is perfect for chilling, plus Dub Reggae and Trip Hop was doing the smoky/lo-fi sound years before BOC anyways, so WTF!!!!! Wow, that was a little hard,...

If one wants to utilize some of their techniques, I think that is a worthwhile endeavour. Any kind of overall emulation of their sound is very, very boring imo. It is just too synonymous with BoC. There are even other artists who do it quite well (I won't name names), but when I listen to the emulat...

This is in the latest Wire Magazine? Had a subscription for years but finally let it lapse a couple of years ago. What a fantastic rag! Unparalleled, imo.

I'll have to scour around and see if I can find this one. Sounds like a great article.

I also had the MBase01 for a while and let it go. There was just something about it that didn't sound right to my ears. I think it was that I didn't like the clickey pulse it added to the attack. I tried to like it because I didn't want to shell out the money for a 20 year old 909. I also owned an ...

I just deleted an entire album description in the post because it doesn't do it justice. Check it out. Whoa!!! You were diggin on Prefuse and you hadn't...

Note the waveguide setting
So, it does or doesn't contain the filter from the M-Resonator? Is this thing strictly time-based fx??

Can you tell by looking at it, Ookpikk?

Yeah, way to make him feel like he should give up (after listening to that)... well that may be true, but I only meant to check out another way of making sample-based music, any attempt at actually trying to recreate shadow would probably result in suicide and madness.. :p The way I look at music i...

The Indigenous People of CUBA were whiped off the planet over 500 years ago. Right. But there have been people living in Cuba for the 500 years since, and at this point, and for quite a while longer, they consider themselves 'Cuban'. Come off it. Do you really just enjoy an argument that much?? :? ...

Surely, you jest. :) His mother is Cuban, therefore he is of Cuban descent. The Indigenous People of CUBA were whiped off the planet over 500 years ago. Right. But t...
