Re: another case of "what synth is in this song?" italo

Not about Laserdance, but about Italo. What synths are used by all that bands like Radiorama and other 80s disco? All they have very resembling sound and often I hear same presets, for example ubiquitous spitting bassline from "Aliens". Probably every synth produced in the eighties... It's not so m...

Re: another case of "what synth is in this song?" italo

i thought it was too coincidental that the EXACT SAME SOUNDS were in both songs... like... both songs use the same synth (or sampler) w/ presets The sync sound is has a distinctive, whistling quality to it, there's probably a DCO aficionado who could identify it. ....... M1 UNIVERSE patch near the ...

Unfortunately I don't recognize it either. Michiel Van Der Kuy seems to have owned loads of different synths, but this flickr set might help:http://www.flickr.com/photos/33482802@N ... 119938800/

Re: Synth Bass - Combining Sounds

I've been thinking of trying that out. Italo disco producers got a lot of mileage out of layering a percussive digital bass octave with a simple analog bass. You could definitely do this now without it being necessarily just a rehash of the 80s.

Re: Pro Tools 9!

I can see the advantage of hardware processing if you're doing a huge movie score or something, but the most processor use I could get out of the demo songs that came with Logic 9 was 19% (with something like 50 tracks, loads of effects).

Re: Thinking of selling up?

Just make sure you test all the software for a while first. Use it until the wow-factor of all those presets goes away, and then decide. I'll sell my hardware sampler immediately when I find a comparable software sampler.

Re: click death

The other problem with Zip Drives is that the disks often just don't work. I've even bought new ones that didn't work out of the box.

Compressor on bass output from crossover?

I just put a compressor on the low output from the crossover on our PA, and I think it sounds much better on pre-recorded music, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried this and if you think it's is a Pro Technique For Live Sound or if it's frowned upon. It seems to tighten up the bass fro...

Yeah, I think if I had more synths I wouldn't really know all the things they can do. I still feel like I've only just scratched the surface of the TG77.

Re: Kurzweil VS V synth VS Turbosynth VS Ensoniq

I used the EPS for a while, tried the loop point trick and all that. The DSP "synthesize" effect created some interesting things, but it was very unpredictable. There's no way you could sit down with a sound in your head and mangle samples to get there. Also it took a while to process, so just playi...

Re: What's your "must have" synth?

Yamaha TG77 (with an external reverb/delay)
In all these years, I don't think very many people have even scratched the surface of what this can do
and the sound quality is excellent, too

Re: (1) OLD STYLE GOA song & (1)summer of 92 style ambient s

I listened to these when you posted them, but I forgot to comment. I actually liked the goa one a little bit better than the ambient version, so I hope you bring it back. Even though you were clearly going for a dated sound, I still liked these more than a lot of the silly "psytrance" I was listenin...

MOTU 2408 or 828/896

There is little hope that Yamaha will ever release a functional mLan driver for snow leopard, so I'm looking for new interface / controller option. The M-audio projectmix io seems to be a similar, cheap, working competitor. However, it doesn't offer much room to expand. Besides, I think the 01x is d...
