Got a TG-77 today

With a new backlight, manuals, patch collection for $250 (so this is one of those 'new gear' threads). I'm very impressed with it. The AFM sound is sparkly, clear, and hi-fi. The DACs (at least on the headphone output) have very low noise. The internal presets are terrible, but the previous owner pr...

Re: Tips for making original and creative music with synths

Things that work for me (most of these I've only just realized, but they are extremely important) It's all about your creative process. If you have an idea and want to get something done: 1. Have a clear, defined concept. Set goals. 2. All your choices should have a reason. 3. Don't just go into the...

Re: External HDDs for recording

The only three brands that I know of that have these chipsts are Glyph (way overpriced) Mercury Elite Pro Drives (found at Macsales.com great prices as well) and Rokstor Drives. I got an Oyen Digital portable 7200 RPM hard drive with the Oxford chipset and FW800, eSATA. They looked like kind of an ...

Hermode Tuning

I looking to buy the cheapest hardware synth with Hermode tuning. Is this list of synths with the feature correct? Waldorf Q ("with OS 3.0 or above") Waldorf Microwave 1 (with ROM 2.0) Access Virus C with OS 6 or above (and, I assume the TI as well). So... does the Waldorf Micro Q have it? Is there ...

Re: Vangelis docu, with Direct devices

A patented custom-made (for Vangelis) follow-up of the Zyklus sequencer. Try google and you'll probably end up on the SOS forum where one the makers (a certain Marshall iirc) popped up to join a discussion about the Zyklus. Which is the funny bit. As far as I know, this arpeggio/sequencer big was o...

DI box for synthesizers on short cable runs?

I've read that it's a good idea to use a DI box for a synth with a cable run greater than 30' to the mixer. But this website seems to indicate that a DI box should always be used, no matter what the cable run, unless your synth already has xlr outputs. He claims that the difference is noticeable. Wh...

Re: waveform looping

Given that it is discontinued... where could one get a hold of Antares Infinity?
I have a freeware called Loop Editor, but all it does is find zero crossings, no more.

Yeah that kind of information would have been more interesting. I think this is gear list is just supposed to awe and distract people.

I wonder if he's mixing with what appears to be the Yamaha DM2000 (cool) or just using it as a DAW interface (lame).

Re: Why was the SY77/TG77 never built as a vector synth?

Actually the SY77 is effectively a vector synth without a joystick, because the envelopes can be looped. It just takes more envelope programming to get the same thing. So you could set up looping envelopes for four sources and then you'd be able to do the same thing as a vector synth, it would just ...

Re: Syncing a sequencer to a digital mixer without MTC

Answer: yes it can Quote from the 02r v2 manual available online: Using MIDI Clock Automix can be referenced to an external MIDI Clock, and supports Timing Clock (F8H), Start (FAH), Continue (FBH), Stop (FCH), and Song Position Pointers (F3H, **H, **H). Use MIDI Clock when you want to synchronize an...

Syncing a sequencer to a digital mixer without MTC

I have an old Kawai Q80 that doesn't generate MTC as far as I know. I'm looking to purchase a digital mixer with built-in automation (Yamaha 02r, Panasonic Ramsa, Tascam DM24). I'll record the automation inside the mixer, but I want the mixer to synchronize to the midi clock and song position pointe...
