Moog Source, hands down. You can't beat the sound for the $$$. Typically go for 700 to 800 bucks on Ebay. I own one, and had Moog Taurus One bass pedals. Closest sound to the Taurus that I know of. They are less expensive the a Moog LP, have more features, and can be upgraded to MIDI with additional...

LP or Moog Voyager.............

The LP isn't quite enough synth. However, if you are after that Moog sound at a low price, there it is. I always dismissed the Voyager because of the cost. I've seen one close up recently and its pretty impressive looking, and larger than I thought. Very well built. But still, its really a mono synt...

I just checked Ebay and there was one DMX with MIDI that just sold for $701.00, he only had a copy of the manual. Interesting. Other DMX without Midi are still going for a lot less, $150.00 or so. Its probably less expensive to buy one without MIDI and just get it upgraded. I have a DMX that I bough...

I bought a Source brand new in around 1981. I bought the first model. They made a few changes on the revision. I bought it to replace my Mini Moog. I wanted the patch memory the Source had as well as ARP and sequencer, digital S&H. The Mini had three OSC, the Source has two. Soundwise, they are very...

One of the great things about today's equipment is....you get a lot of capability for a small amount of money compared to the "old days". Microprocessors, RAM, DSP, costs are so much more powerful than a few years ago. I still kinda scratch my head when I look at my LIVE rig, which consists of 2 KBs...

There was a thread on this site not too long ago that posters related their CS experiences with DSI. Outstanding. These days, getting ANY kind of service, is getting tough. "Service" covered in BS is the norm.

Hey JS, too bad you had to spend the $$ on a Voyager before that registered. I might take a plunge for a Voyager if I could lay my hands on one for 14 or 1500 bucks. But that's not going to happen. Anyway, I have two lead synths that don't get used very much, so it would be a waste of money anyway. ...

For those of us dreaming about an ION 2, something comes in to play here. If Alesis even had a thought about putting out a new ION, it would serve them best to keep the original size (case) of the ION to keep cost down. If they went with a 61 note KB, that would require a new design. I was reading a...

Unless you have an endless supply of $$$, I'd say the price should come into play somewhere. Looking at price compared to what an instrument adds to your potential sonic palette, AND just how much you're going to use it are factors. The big problem I've always had with the Voyager are both of the ab...

Quote by WDW: "Truly a loss to the synth community. Of all the VAs on the market, the ION is the one that impresses me the most. MPS: I wonder how many years Alesis has been selling the A6? Yeah, that drum machine must be on SSI now. But they still sell. I've been concerned about the ION being discontinued because if you are in the Ion/Micron users group, almost everyone there owns a Micron, not an ION. I haven't seen the ION...

Guys, Thanks for your responses. Yep, I forgot about after touch. Thats a great feature to have. I sure hope Alesis doesn't discontinue the ION. That means I'd have to get a spare on EvilBay fast. No $$$ these days. I use mine in my Live rig and its worked out better than I expected. I have my ION 3...

Pan: I would like to see an ION 2, but that's going to happen either. New Features: 61 key, better quality KB. 24 Voices or more. FX. Full palette: Chorus, Delay, Reverb, etc. Tilted screen, so you could actually read it. Sequencer. Analog step type, at least two that could be used as one. Street pr...

Presets are usually a good demo of some of the things a synth can do. There are some important things to consider... What kinda music are you planning on using it for? What type of work will you do with a synth, Studio or Stage or (if you're fortunate) BOTH. No one synth will have presets that will ...

Quote by Bill H: "I highly doubt that there will be any more Ions produced, let alone a new product like an Ion Rack. Alesis's new owners Numark seem to have no interest in the synth line of the old company. It's just dying. They apparently bought the company for it's other assets". Is that right? I...
