It seems as if anything that touches 0 at all it distorts. And it sounds terrible. There seems to be very little 'headroom' if that's the correct term. Not sure why it peaks like that, it might be something in the signal I need to look into.

Could it be 16 steps though. You might be able to toggle to steps 9-16 somehow. Assuming you would need to toggle in this way to sequence the drum parts, it would make sense.
