Re: Syncing TR-606 to Oberheim OB-8 arpeggiator

I would say that the 606's trigger voltage is too low for the OB8. I have the same problem triggering my Monopoly from Roland drum machines (including the 606). They trigger Roland synths just fine, but I can only trigger the Monopoly's arpeggiator if I use one of the separate instrument audio outpu...

Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

My apologies if this topic is already covered somewhere and I've overlooked it. As there is a thread regarding "interesting eBay auctions," I thought it would be interesting to have a thread for people to post auctions that have ridiculously high starting bids or 'buy-it-now' prices. The auction bel...

Re: What synth = what car?

I would personally like to compare all old Roland analogues to Toyotas. In my experience both brands offer products that are absolutely dependable and while they're never top of their class, they always offer competant performance with easy to use features. http://www.zikinf.com/_gfx/matos/dyn/large...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?

The Roland JD800. Don't get me wrong - I like it - but honestly, it promises so much and usually fails to deliver. When I first saw it I thought, wow! A digital synth with all those sliders! It must be really easy to use! Well frankly it's not. That vast array of sliders is very misleading! I unders...

Spare parts for old synths

Does anyone know a particularly good source (with an internet presence) for spare parts for old Yamaha analogue synths? I need some slider caps for a CS15D.

Re: SCI Pro-One vs Moog Source

I presume you mean you'll have to sell the Pro 1 to fund the Source purchase? Don't do it. You'll seriously regret letting go of your Pro 1, even if you don't like the overall sound as much as the Source. There's just too many things it can do that the Source can't, and Pro 1's aren't so easy to com...

Re: Casio Wha???? "what model is this?"

Are you sure? I know the percussion is definitely analogue, but I think the other sounds are digitally synthesised. The MT-68 definitely rocks. That was the one that got me onto the whole Casio thing.

Re: Casio Wha???? "what model is this?"

It's a "Casiotone 501." I own one that is currently on indefinite loan to a friend. It's pretty groovy.

I actually have the same stand too, although that came with my Casiotone 701.

Re: Trigger out Drum Machines

Hello I am looking for a drum machine that has a digital tempo display but also has trigger out and midi....the only option I have found is the tr-707 and tr-727 is this my only option as it is a little pricey for a quick retro solution. I presume the emphasis is on something cheap. The Yamaha RX5 ...

Re: Prophet 600 or Kawai sx240

The biggest difference will be the fact that the Kawai uses DCOs and the P600, VCOs. There is just a difference in sound when you have two VC oscillators in tune/unison, but still phasing against each other versus steady, totally in tune, perfect DCOs... Agreed. Not to say that DCO machines can't d...

Re: Prophet 600 or Kawai sx240

Can't really remember what it was like for pads, but with two VCOs per voice, it surely couldn't be too bad. What I remember most was the poly mod section, which produced some really excellent sound effects. I'm also a really big fan of arpeggiators and I remember that the combination of the arpeggi...

Re: The Complete DX7 by Howard Massey

Because most libraries these days actually allow you to borrow for about a month and then offer you the option of renewing the loan several more times. Three or four months should be more than enough time to absorb all the information in one of these titles. It certainly was for me. I'm not saying t...

Re: Digital Synthesizer

"Complex pads," "bell sounds," "hands on hardware." You could do a lot worse than a Roland JD800: It's a purely digital synth that has complex envelope generators (which is important for shaping complex pads), plenty of dedicated sliders so you can actually see what you're doing to the sound, and yo...

Re: Prophet 600 or Kawai sx240

I dare say you're not getting any replies because the SX-240 is quite rare. I personally haven't had experience with the SX-240 either, but when I was on the dole years ago, I used to go down to this vintage synth shop in Melbourne every now and then to have a play on a Prophet 600 that they couldn'...
