Re: Yamaha DX7 Powers up, not much else
Welcome to the board! do any of the buttons make changes? Yamaha used alot of Tantalium capacitors in their synths back then. They get old and short out causing problems. This may be what's pulling down the +12v line. NOTE: if so, the bad caps may not even be on the power supply board. Maybe time to...

Re: Time signature question
Flame if you have to - I don't give a s**t. Too many people are used to drum machines and sequencers that just bang out mechanical beats. Music is MORE than that: there are pulses and flows that do not follow the bar lines. Subtle variations in tempo which strech or compress the beat, along with dyn...

Re: EPS 16 plus old floppies won't spin
If ALL your discs fail, I think the drive (maybe the head itself) is dead. If the drive can't find any readable data, it will shutdown in about a second or two. Try cleaning the drive: the head pull-down solonoid is not very strong, the head arm my be sticky.

Re: Ensoniq ESQ1 mod wheel panel question
IIRC, the screws withOUT the brass insert were the very early production units. Somebody may have replaced the original wheel panel with an older one. This is a weak spot on bothe the ESQ-1 and the SQ80 (seems not so much the samplers = EPS etc) You can buy brass inserts (not exactly the same) at a ...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)
I seem to remember this (or similar) before, so don't expect any burst of insight. ) The synth that made you want to play music: Played piano and organ since a kid, but it was SOB that got the synth gassing in me. 2) Your first synth: Ensoniq SQ-80 3) The synth that has surprised you most: The SQ-80...

Re: Yamaha PS-20 down pitched, how to fix it :()
Get the schematic downloaded. Check the section labled Master Osc for Sound Source. There is a 10 uf cap that feeds the vibrato signal: check for leakage. Also, there is shown a variable choke that would seem to affect tuning. Be sure it has not been knocked loose, or mis-adjusted.

Re: Korg DW8000: How to disassemble keys?
A magnetic tool just helps position the springs on the white keys between the black ones. At least for my fat fingers.

Re: Korg DW8000: How to disassemble keys?
Gently pull the keys forward (ie. toward the player) to release the tab at the rear of the plastic key: there is a notch that hinges on the metal chassis. Watch the springs--- they will fly! keep them seperated by key color. The springs are (were) two different shades of bronze. It will not kill you...

This place makes (made?) upgrades for some vintage synths. I communicated with them last year about the availability of their MIDI upgrade for the Korg Poly61. Their web page will not connect - Chrome says their security is out of date. Anybody here know a landline or snail address?

Re: Ensoniq eps16 + main board issue
As in all vintage Ensoniq boards, clean every removable connector. They have a well-known problem with powdery corrosion.

Not, cheap, but have gotten several mainboards from him and saved another Ensonic.
