Re: If You Could Have Just One Vintage Synth...

1. bought the Roland JX-10 intending to fix and sell.... but i'm hooked on the old thing. 2. may not be old (or analog) enough to qualify, but if i could only have ONE synth, i'd take the Alesis QS8: great (to me) sound and long keyboard to split into 2,3 or more parts. second choice would be my Ens...

Re: another project in the que

good eyes. close. its an ax-80. think it got a little damp. particleboard endcaps melted into mouldy sawdust. all voices work, so hope to save it. one of the scanning ICs for the buttons is dead...ordered from Mouser. it's in line now, then the poly, then the QS8, then the mini, the the MG-1,,,,if i...

mirage drive failure??

my mirage rack has workd in all its 8-bit glory for 20 years..... suddenly says 'ud' (unformatted disk) on every disk i have, even factory. has the drive gone south? motor turns, stepper works, light comes on, recognizes "nd" (no disk) condition. cleaning did not help. can you??

thanks

Re: Where can i get Curtis filters from?

not much of an answer, but my 2 cents: it can be done. Korgs CX hammond clones had custom chips that failed, killing the organ. some private company began making 'emulators' using stock chips on a pc board.. messy, and a bit $$$$, but htey saved many of these old 'boards. what i,m saying (i'm not sm...

Re: Alesis Quadrasynth? (the 76 key one)

i have 4 alesis keys and a rack. i find them to be a good 'middle ground' :acceptable piano, b-3, rhodes, brass, saxes... yet with a little programming, can do some werid, spacy things. (play mostly in church, so i don't try to freak out the 'mature' members!) the best part of these boards is the ab...

Re: hardware

"shoegaze", eh? had to Wiki that one. IF you want to climb a learning curve like a 50-foot ladder, listen to a Kawai K5. if you spend enought time playing with the thing, you can get "pads" that sound like craming broken glass in you ear. don't go by the factory sounds... some are actualy quite plea...

Re: noise problems on my juno60

my 2cents check to see if former owners have had it apart and not re-connected ALL the ground wires between boards. the wiring in these old beasts are full of stray signals. also, some old synths have (or had) metal shields over/around certain circuts. these are generaly tossed anytime someone pokes...
