Re: Favorite sub-$200 Reverb/Delays (Hardware)
caught a roland slash BOSS de200 for ~50 bucks without a power cable few years back and it has continued to impress me. it sounds great, has cool modulation. trig/sync and mod speed as well as some other functions in the back. the other versions accumulate in features and in price... SP90 and 990 ar...

Re: Reminder: it is still about the player not the gear ....
I get the impression that some people here think that actual instruments are an unnecessary distraction to the process of creating Pure Music of the Mind freed from the corruption of material things. Maybe eventually they'll develop "conceptual music," where the music is freed from the constraints ...

Re: The Moog Modular was not an April's fool joke
Ok, no more excuses on not making a new polyphonic synth... I'm pretty sure this IS their excuse for not making a poly. But honestly, who cares? It's just another ass-backwards move from Moog--maintaining a "legacy" by making products for exactly 5 people in the world, using a rock dinosaur (who's ...

Re: Initial compression
I was wondering whether anybody uses compression at the recording stage on guitars & vocals. I read somewhere that the steadier level makes it easier to adjust the gain, which makes perfect sense to me. it really depends on the instrument being recorded and the context. i think the compressor setti...

Re: The factory preset conundrum
i dont see why people get hung up on preset sounds, of an instrument thats supposed to 'synthesize' any concievable (and sometimes unimaginable) sounds. must have very little imagination.... on the other hand... theres some preset sounds (lately bass, soundtrack, fat fifth) that are just so characht...

Re: Perceived clipping in modern recordings...
distortion is a form of compression. i learned to use the Saturator in ableton on 'analog clip' mode and it basically brickwalls stuff at zero, adds a tasteful pinch of drive, but avoids the 'sucking' time feature of a limiter or compressor. i use this trick 9/10 times instead of a compressor now......

Re: Using nothing but samples to create music
everythings a sample. nothings a sample. funny how when you play something the first time around its a performance, but the recording, when given to someone completely removed from the process becomes a 'sample'.

Re: VSE March Competition: DCO Synths!
I don't know... No audio manipulation Kind of sucks the fun out of working within the limitations, don't you think? WHY? The point of these "single synth" competitions is to PUSH THE LIMITS of said synth. Is there no interesting music ever made without audio manipulation? If you answer "yes", then ...

Re: Where are the sampling drum machines?
What happened to any sampling drum machines? I can't seem to find any that have actual MIDI slave and master sync and also can sample and also have a drum machine style sequencer. Also looking for something that can do CD Redbook audio (44.1 kHz 16 bit stereo). Are the MPC's the only choice? id sug...

Re: How would you 'measure' Keytracking?
Read p.36 of the SH201 manua l. There is a "center" key for tracking. On the SH201 it's C4. Set tracking to 100% (the full range is +/-200%), play a C4 and set the cutoff to taste. Play C5 the filter opens up one octave, play C3 it closes one octave. This assumes of course no other modulations....L...
