db, don't you have serial #1, or was it #7? I remember you had one production unit and one early pre-production with funky hardware.

Thanks for posting that!

Perhaps they meant that it was played on Minimoog and Matrix 12 on the soundpage they included with that article. I recently tried to record it but the record skipped. Stupid turntables.

Direct links: The Pleasure Seekers Instrumental I remember this tune playing on Miami Vice. You're in my System Check out the bass line in the chorus of this second link. It's a pair of sequenced bass lines (Minimoog and ??) playing 32nd notes, and they alternate between the two sounds. There's a Ma...

I know that the DX-7 didn't send a full 0-127 velocity scale. Also, its aftertouch message was non-standard. Does anyone know if these faults were fixed in the KX-76? If not, I wouldn't recommend it as a MIDI controller.

Sure, you could just buy some other 16-voice analog poly... oh wait there AREN'T ANY. Seriously: 32 VCOs, two filters, 3 LFOs and S&H, arpeggiator, sequencer, ribbon controller, two filters and 20 outputs isn't enough for you? Enjoy your Microkorg. (Sorry onosendai, I wasn't making fun of you...

David Frank instrumental clips

I found this page on producer David Frank's website: http://www.davidfrankmusic.com/page2/page2.html He was half of The System, whose big hit was "Don't Disturb this Groove." He was known for hip, busy Minimoog bass lines, and played on a few 80s hits as well as producing Christine Aguilara's Genie ...

Re: Korg Poly 800 USERS! Is yours noisy????

An engineer who had owned one agreed and told me that the noise intensifies because the reverb is analogue- I'm not really sure if that's true, but the fact that his was noisy too was interesting. Any thoughts? I don't think there's any analog reverb except for a spring, and that wouldn't fit in th...

the moog voyager is still going for 3290 euros or so, which includes 19.6% tva, but still... the euro went far up, and moog stayed at the same price. Shame on you ! International companies do that on purpose to keep the playing field level around the world. They prefer that customers buy in their o...

Nuff said.. :D
Me too. I'm not sure if it's just the one I know the best, but whenever I'm recording actual music, and not just fiddling about, it's more tracks of A6 than anything else.

There were a bunch of synth heads there at the time. Before the A6 came out, Alesis was selling more synthesizers than they were ADATs or reverbs. The QS-8 was one of the best-selling synths at the time. Mike Peake was there, and Erik Norlander was the head of the engineering department and Dave Bry...

KX-76 is just a DX action if I remember correctly. It doesn't even send full 0-127 velocity scale. You're better off buying a DX-7, or something with the latter, better Yamaha action (DX-7II, Wavestation, etc.)

Sounds digilog to me. Possibly a Prophet VS, Emax or DW-8000 through some chorus. Mono with glide, maybe unison.

He recorded the album at Unique Recording (check the liner notes), which was famous for their synth collection. Session players used to show up with a shoebox full of carts instead of their synth collection. So he probably used their VS and then bought one later.
