Agree with calaver, the composing, mixing aspect would interest me far more than the gear (plus I've already looked most of it up )

Opening the unit is very straightforward, only the display is a bit tricky. watch out , lead free solder there, be careful when desoldering the pot or you can ruin the pcb. Take the percussion from the first one, pad from the second and a new bigger bass with a tiny bit more release on it I was thinking the same thing before I posted them. I was pretty happy with the bass on the second version at the time. Probably does need a bit more power as it's basically the cent...

2 years later and I thought I'd try this again. Still no luck. I'm able to receive a bank or patch into midiox, but unable to send it to the esq-1. When sending a bank I get a soft reset - system error 01 message, and sending a patch doesn't seem to do anything. I'm using a generic usb -> midi cable...

Like the sound of the dw-8000 and from my reading it says the keyboard is so-so. Too clacky? Too spongey, what's its problem? Any way of improving it?

I don't have any keyboard at the moment with midi out so it would be my main playing keyboard.
