Drum sampler recommendation

Post by gcoudert » Sat Apr 08, 2017 11:07 am

I have realised that I have so many drum samples on my Fantoms' CF card that the synths take forever to start up.
What I would like is a dedicated drum sampler with built-in effects into which I can load wav samples (lots of RAM needed!), normalise and trim them if necessary, arrange them into immediately accessible kits and sequence patterns into songd, preferably TR-style or similar. Separate outs would be nice but they're not essential. Maybe I'm asking for a little too much, I don't know. I don't particularly want to go down the Akai S5000 / rackmount sampler route again either in case I go back to gigging. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What's your budget?

Have you looked at the upcoming Elektron Digitakt?

The electrons have a dedicated following, but they are certainly pricy. What about the Volca sample? You also have electribes, boss SP samplers, and of course the classic MPC series, which may be the perfect tool for the job.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Budget-wise, I'm not sure yet. I might let the Fantom X8 go, which means I'd have £600-£700 available. I will look at your suggestions. Has anyone used an MC909? The OS is similar to the Fantom's so I'd be in familiar territory but the features are a bit OTT for what I need.
